So hands up who wasn't convinced Pochettino was the right choice to be our manager?

I'll admit I was one of the doubters . I didn't hate the appointment but I was firmly in the 'don't know' category. All the managers we were linked with (LVG, FDB, Rafa etc) seemed to have flaws. I suppose my position was that we had screwed up badly by not employing Martinez when we had a chance and was now in the 'anyone but Hoddle' camp.

All I wanted was a manager who was able to engender a good team spirit (like Harry), handled the media well and didn't make me cringe every time he opened his mouth (like Jol) and was tactically astute (like Sherwood*).

Well Poch is all those things. Results aside, I feel that for once we are being managed intelligently by someone who actually has a plan but is prepared to be flexible and realistic and doesn't throw his toys out of the pram if he can't have all the candy in the sweet shop. The squad is looking more balanced and content than I can ever remember.

So, apologies to Poch for ever doubting him. I'm now a fan. He has done enough right in his short time at the club to convince me that he is the right man for the job, and when the bad times come (and they surely will) I hope that I, and others, remember this and cut the man some slack.

I don't want to judge him to early (we're only two games into the league remember). But on the points you raised. Team morale, balance etc. so far I'm impressed.

I was in the FDB camp, and I was disappointed when we didn't get him. Yet I like the vibe from the camp at the mo. Everybody seems to be on the same wavelength. With realistic targets being mentioned and no apparent players desperate to leave.

I think it is tad early for this thread myself, I still don't know whether he is the right man for the job.
I like that he's trying to get the players fitter and made them walk over hot coals to install belief.
He plays a straight bat with the media.

As far as the squad is concerned there are still question marks over several players, he didn't bring those players in so I'm not putting heat on him for it.

It's a long season so I'm just waiting and watching with interest to see how things develop.

He was my first choice, so I'm happy with how things are going, but we are a defeat on Sunday away from people getting the knives out. There's a long way to go.

I was in the FDB camp, and am thus far very impressed with Poch.

However, I will wait until much much later in the season or even next season to make my final judgements because we are 2 bloody games in, still in the TW and to start judging him a success or otherwise now is silly imo.

Too early, I was neither for or against really, but I am encouraged by what I have seen thus far.

Coming from the man who started a "Give AVB a new contract" thread ;)

Only joking, I agree with what you're saying

I was very pleased with his appointment at the time, but judging from the glowing reports he has received from players he has far exceeded my expectations. Long may it continue

I was very excited when we were first linked to LVG, but after Manure hijacked him, I was hoping for FdB. My preference for those two were because I wanted us to be like Barca, with either of them fine-tuning our Academy to attract top talent from anywhere; and also perhaps get us a few Dutch prospects because of their connection.

Must say I wasn't completely sold by Poch's achievements with Soton, but he now seems to be the real deal, though it is early days yet.

My other wish now is that Freund is up to the task in co-ordinating our development of our juniors.

As others have said, too early to say. I like the look of things though.

Incidentally, my first choice was LVG...

I wanted FBD but I'm not going to appologise for it as I was also quite happy for Poch to come in. Really there were just a few people trying to make others take sides, I think most of us weren't bothered as there were a few good options on the go.

I have nothing to repent for, was far too jaded after last season to be expectant about any appointment we made. Having said that, 3 games into a new season is no measure by which to gauge his success. By that rationale, Sam Allardyce has morphed into Pep Guardiola in the space of one pre-season, and Louis Van Gaal is now the worst football coach since Christian Gross bought his tube ticket.

The only way something like that could happen is if Big San turned up with a fist full of lard and some seriously evil intentions :yuck:
