Apologies for starting yet another new thread on the subject of today's loss but I just can't be bothered to read those that have already been posted. There are so many of them and the titles all suggest an orgy of negativity. Not my bag.

I prefer to concentrate on what I saw in the second half. Far more urgency. Far higher tempo. Infinitely more threat than of late. On another day, we'd have scored 5. Or 10. Seriously. 31 attempts at goal, 14 on target, without scoring from any of them must be some sort of record. Or very close to it.

Sure, it means that our finishing was nothing like clinical enough. But at least we were creating chances. Proper chances. Gilt edged chances. In spades. That's a 1000% improvement on recent games. Carry on playing like that and the players will eventually find their scoring boots. And we'll hand out some serious beatings.

Playing with more urgency and at a higher tempo - that's what we need. Possession is all very well but the second half showed that we can maintain it without having to play as ponderously and deliberately in attack as we had been prior to today's second half.

That is a huge positive to take away from this game. More of that from now on, please.

Eriksen created loads & set pieces apart had his best all round game so far.
We had shitloads of chances.
We did this without looking under threat at the back.

Actually a lot more good than bad to take from today.

Couldn't agree more, as long as we can keep on creating chances we'll score them soon enough, especially if they fall to Soldado.

If this was a true indication of what the future brings then I for one would be happy for Avb to continue as manager and contrary to some of my Avb bashing post's (even though I feel are warranted) I actually like the guy and enjoy listening to his thoughts and my ideal would be for him to stay and be a success. Whether or not he can continue to keep us playing like that is up to him. Our first half display was woeful and unfortunately it is this that you have to judge the team on.

Time will tell if Avb saw something from that second half performance and he can translate that to the start of the game, If he can and he wants to then Yes we could be onto something special. I thought there was an air of inevitability about the second half and as the home side we should of been doing this anyway.

Erik Thorstvedt said on tv that the last time a team had 14 shots on target without scoring was in 2006.

I don't think we were "woeful" in the first half.

We were just too slow, deliberate and ponderous in possession - as we have been for much of the season. We were still the dominant team, though, with 65% possession and 8 attempts at goal (4 on target) against Newcastle's 4 attempts. Krul made a couple of very good saves and Soldado missed a free header from six yards, among other decent chances.

Nevertheless, the first half performance wasn't good enough. And the second half performance showed that we are capable of far, far better.

this team oozes with quality. it will come together at some point and the goals will come in buckets. but today sucked - those guys need to bury their chances.

Should have called this the clutching at straws thread. Lose 3-0 at home to WHU, beat Hull with a penalty and then lose at home to Newcastle. Six goals not from penalties in eleven games.
Little or no flowing football- even today after that limp first half we stepped it up for ten minutes and then couldn't keep it up.
£100 million on new players but they haven't improved the team.

We appear to have watched different games.

The second half was a much better performance by us and we deserved to get more than what we did from the game.

That is why I am okay with a loss today, we played better but it was simply one of those games.

Lloris (didn't play today)
Soldado
Lamela
Erikson
Paulinho
Holtby
Verts
Vlad
Kaboom
Kane
Chadli (when he is fit)
Sandro
Walker (To an extent)
Dawson (To an Extent)
Capoue
Carroll (out on loan)

Are all positives in my book. There are plenty of positives around, just not when it comes to team selection.

Again another disappointing game where to be honest dispite going 1 down early we should have beaten them! First of I believe avb is the right man for the spurs job!! let's not forget the talent he can attract and is highly respected internationally... Evidently we need to bring in more talent!!!!! But the problem is he has bought like for like players which means competition is high and also I think that creates selfish players i.e Townsend !! Who would rather go for the glory and shoot rather then feed the team a create for saldado just trying to secure his spot rather then care about the team I couldn't give a toss whether he plays for England this guy is not better then lamela who I think is technically better in the last third of the pitch and I just can't understand why he doesn't play!!! £30million !! In order for him to settle he has to play the games, just as he gave paulhino the games he should of done so for eriksen and lamela from the start as I believe when they gel this will be spurs great threat!! Siggy is not good enough!! People screaming for Defoe ! I don't think so we need to strengthen in jan for sure !! The way this going we won't get top four, coz our players are more concerned with getting in the team then playing as one! Take out Townsend and his selfish big head and play lamela and Lennon on the wings with eriksen in the middle behind saldado !!!

Still we were shit for majority of the game (first half and last 20 or so minutes) and lost at home without scoring. That's the bottom line.

Your perception of the game and mine don't tally.

And yes, of course losing is the bottom line.

But this thread isn't about the bottom line. If it was, it would refer to clouds in its title. Not their silver lining.

Sandro has to play every game. His ability to press and win the ball back keeps us on the front foot. Has to be him and Pauli going forwards I think.

And Hugo would have prevented their goal today.

And another day one of the rebounds would have fallen to RS.

And another day (god I hope) AVB will bring on Lamela.
