Interesting. I don't think there are as many world class strikers as there have been in the past and that the position is losing it's value, in Spain and the premiership at least..

Spain has Higuain and maybe Benzema.
Germany has Mandzukic, Gomez, Lewandowski, Huntelaar, Kießling.
Italy has Jovetic, Cavani and maybe Llorente, Klose
France has Ibrahimovic and now Falcao
Portugal has Jackson Martinez
England has RVP, Aguero, Dzeko.

For the whole of Europe this isn't really a lot when you think about it. In the past it seemed like you would get some pretty poor sides but they would often have a good striker up front getting a lot goals e.g. Tottenham with Lineker, Klinsmann, Sherringham. Seems like the position is dieing out, especially with this false 9 revolution if Spain. This is why it's hard to think of realistic options for us to buy for a reasonable amount who would get 20+ goals a season. Nowa days goals are more evenly spread across the team whereas in the past the strikers were responsible for the bulk of them. Maybe it's also due to the fact that the 4-4-2 has almost died out now. Anyway, if you can be one of the few clubs to actually get a world class forwards in then it can definitely make a big difference.

p.s. just so we're clear, i don't consider Messi, Suarez or Rooney to be strikers
