No, I always considered it racist as well as the rest. Maybe it's just , but I always associated the line, "hanging from a tree" with lynchings. Now, it may just be that tree rhymes with HIV, but I've always found the line a little distasteful for the reasoning already given.

Yeah that's a fair point. See, i never even thought of that, i just thought it rhymes with 'be', 'lunacy' and 'HIV'. I'm sure the originator of the song was getting at the hanging part as opposed to the tree though.

There were lots of things you could have picked to put there, the 'hanging from a tree' was a deliberate allusion to lynching.

The Adebayor song is completely mindless, ignorant and not even a good melody. I felt so embarrassed on the tube to the cup final with all these dickheads screaming it. Its just really hard to accept that we have absolute cocks for fans just like Chelsea and the rest.

I'm not defending it but am pretty sure it harks back to Justin Fashanu taking his own life doesn't it ?

Anyone who sings that they don't care if someone is killed/kill themselves or trivialises HIV needs their head examined .

Those that don't sing it, do you smile or laugh when it is sung or shake your head? Just curious.

It's not the 'not caring if you hang yourself' part that I found racist - it was the fact that the said hanging was from a tree - something I always associated with lynching.

Either way, it's not a very nice song :)

What a mundane boring old world we are living in.
God forbid anyone should be offended at some time during their 70+ years on this earth.

If "his dad washes elephants" is considered to be a terrible racist insult then I am particularly proud of my country and it's record on racial integration and tolerance because there was a bloody sight worse when I was growing up and actually fighting for racial equality; if any black africans out there are really that upset by that then for crying out loud get a grip grow up and start wearing a thicker skin.

Now back to the song! How the fuck anybody thinks it's a good thing to have an arsenal favourite's name sung to the rafters and reverborating around White Hart Lane for all the world to hear is a good thing is utterly beyond me and that's what I told the people singing it near me the last time.

The sooner it dies out the better!

The only time i have been annoyed when it was sung was during ET in Eindhoven, that was a time to get behind the team other than that i really couldn't care less

I once offended myself by singing this song. So much, in fact, that I didn't speak to myself for a whole week - and then when I did start speaking to myself again, that was only through a mediator, who also happened to be me.

It was very confusing.

That's nothing Stoof, I got put in the SC dungeon for 3 weeks with no air, light or food.

Luckily I made it out.

Nah, Chelski's manager is a Jew, and the owner is a Russian, there's enough material there that even our Yiddo stance will see some anti-semetic comments come to light.

Just chanting "You're owned by a Russian and run by a Jew!" might even be enough to get you kicked out, even though its just stating the truth.

The Chavs owner happens to be a Russian JEW!!

I agree it's time this sick song was stopped, funny the club have let all the Sol stuff go but are clamping down on this one?

I think it's offensive, And Emmanuel Adebayor's done nothing to deserve it really. I think we should create a chant that slams him in a none racist way.

I'd prefer our fans got behind the team rather than sing some crappy song from the stands all of the time :hump:

I hear they are trying to ban ALL football songs at games t
as they are worried it may offend people who dont like a bit of noise. The plan is to get COMPLETE silence in grounds by 2012.

Will be like having a pitch surrounded by West Stands

I really wish we would stop singing this Adebayor song, and any song about another team or it's players when we're not playing them. It's just embarassing. I know people will say that Gooners sing about us at their games, but lets let them be the ones who look like mugs.

Adebayor, Adebayoooooor
HIs dad washes cars
and his mum's a car door.

Lol! yeah summit like that. i think we should just change the tune altogether and abuse him in another song. Although i really don't know what to pick on because let's face it everyone...He is a good player. last season i said he's so shit, but at the same time he's good. He's so gangely and slow, but yet he's good. it's all so hard to explain.
