I hope we go with this team:

Gomes, Corluka, King, Dawson, Ekotto, Bale, Modric, Huddlestone, Lennon, Keane, Crouch

Not convinced...mainly because i can see them sticking 10 men behind the ball and i have reservations over whether we can actually break that down and score.

I think we will do it but it's absolutely vital that we start brightly. If we can score early on it will settle both the team and the crowd and we can play with more freedom, but if it remains goalless after half time everyone will start to get edgy and it will make the task even harder.

There were many teams who came to the lane last year to defend for 90 mins but because we broke them down it then forced them to have to come forward. To imply all the teams who came to defend got a clean sheet is laughable. We broke down many more teams than we didnt

well thats your opinion so fair enough but in my opinion none of the teams you listed came to sit for 90 minutes and tried to play, the teams I listed had no intention of attacking and played 11 players behind the ball and we struggled badly

The only way we are going to get through is if we come out of the blocks at a ferocious tempo and smack 2 in in the first 30 mins - get the crowd going bonkers and keep the tempo up and beast them in the first half. If we don't win it in the first half then the lads will shit their pants again and be afraid to go anywhere near the ball.

If we'd have lost 1-0 I think it would be straight forward for us, but due to the way we lost and the goals they scored, it's going to be a very hairy occasion at the lane. The fans are gonna have a huge part to play.

Why would you play corluka, he was total shit last night????

i quite like corluka, think he for the most part is a good fullback but I agree it should probably be kaboul or even walker soley due to pace, they were asuprisingly fast teamEek

if we are gonna attack like mad, which im sure we will i would even be tempted to play bassong and king just so we dont get done on the break as bad

Well that's not really an argument because they all played shit....:-|

Corluka is a good defender normally - and I don't think he'd struggle so much back on normal grass pitches.

If we were to use your argument for not playing Charlie, no-one from last night would be bloody playing!

Stick Lennon in front of Charlie = different player.

We'll win at home. It won't be Young Boys v Bambi On Ice when played on grass. Hudd will play full 90, Ledley will play.

I don't get why Crouch didn't start. On a pitch where it's bouncing all over the place and you can't control it, stick your tallest striker on, and lump it upfield :)

Out of this team, which is what I was responding to: Gomes, Corluka, King, Dawson, Ekotto, Bale, Modric, Huddlestone, Lennon, Keane, Crouch

I would want him excluded and Kaboul inserted. Crouch, lennon, king didn't play, keano looked reasonably lively when he came on and the others kicked into a slightly higher gear when hudd came on, but for me Charlie was dire and stood out from the rest of the dross as being especially bad.

Nothing wrong with my reasoning.

I wouldn't start with the above anyways, I'd go with Gomes, Kaboul, King, Dawson, Eko, Gio, Hudd, Modric, Bale, Crouch, Keane

I was wondering that. My first thought was that may-be Harry doesn't want him cup tied, but he probably just thought that Pav & Defoe would be good enough to score a couple against YB's and that he could save Crouch for the game against Stoke and the 2nd leg.

I think by virute of the fact that we have to go and WIN, that should have a big effect on our mentality and thus get us into the right frame of mind right from the off.

If we had managed to get a draw out in Berne then almost certainly this would be in the mindset of the players of not having to win the match at home, which is always a risky strategy despite the obvious upside of not having to score to win.

As long as we box clever then there is no reason at all why we can't progress - and progress rather comfortably!

The important thing if they do stick 10 behind the ball is to keep throwing the ball into the mixer as much as possible. It's what United do when they are desperate for a goal and teams are hanging on against them.

First 10 minutes pass iot around, see what they're doing and react to it, if they come at us then we can try to break them down with snappy passing, through balls and great through passes.

If they sit back then get the ball in the box as much as possible, free kicks, corners and throw-ins deep in their territory will be key and crouch looking for knock downs will stand more of a chance than trying to pass it through them.

I don't care if it goes in off a knee, a shin (possibly a hand?!) a goals a goal...

Trouble is if we score early, will this mentality creep in?

My main worry would be that we don't go for it so much early on that we let them counter attack us at pace again and end up conceding another sloppy goal. Though we must hope they don't let a lucky ricochet off an offside player to get them started again.

They didn't look that comfortable in defence I think it was more a case of us not being able to string 2 passes together or control the ball under any pressure nearer their goal. I think Crouch will cause them serious problems, and if it becomes a case of "throwing it in the mixer" as you say, then needs must.

...we will also have had three competitive games and so the extra month the Young Boys have had will not be as much a factor as last night and no doubt was against Fenebache, our pride has also been pricked so we'll have something to prove whilst YB know that they had the tie in their pocket but blew it and we know it was lost and we've saved it all of which gives us the edge before we even start playing and before we accept that we are simply the better team.

We will beat them at home, 100 % convinced of it.We had a bit of a shocker last night, but what team plays superbly EVERY single game ? Teams that win leagues have days like this, its just one of those things. We played probably the worst weve played under HR,and still only lost by a single goal.YBs will be easier than many think,we will get 3 or 4 against them.
