Quite impressed by Tim in that press conference, shows a wealth of knowledge about the psychological side of the game which can only be gained through experience of playing at the top level, probably what AVB was lacking in due to the fact he was never a player.
"We won't bring anyone in unless something dramatic happens"
Well, dramatic would be fit do describe Levy's usual attitude the last 12 hours of the transfer window.

He is saying some players may be allowed to leave, which means they well be sold. He is making them available for transfer.
...as any coach would do. But it still might not be his decision. I'm not looking to be awkward Mullers, just trying to play devils advocate. None of us know, but are quick to vilify Sherwood for selling these players, when it may be out of his hands? Who knows?

Holtby is a nice guy, is fun and joins in with everything and everyone at the club. His performances on Spurs TV have turned him into a fan favourite - which is great.

But ability wise on the pitch, he isn't doing it for me yet - I've not seen anything convincing so far.

I know this will be unpopular, completely unpopular, but in Eriksen there is a much, much better player in a very similiar position. Holtby does to me simply run around a lot, without seemingly having a clue.

I do believe he could be a very good player though, he just isn't at the moment - I'd rather see Holtby go over Lemala for instance.

Levy going over the coaches head would not surprise me normally but in this case it would. I mean we don´t need to sell anyone and I don´t think there will be massive bids for Holtby or Capoue, so any profit would be minimal.

Maybe one or both of them would be happy to go if it meant them playing regular football? Perhaps the players also have laid their own plans and desires on the table and it doesnt match what the coach can offer them right now.

As I said mate, who knows? I agree with you though, I don't think we should be selling anyone, Capoue to me looks a player and I would be more than happy for him to stay.

The problem is, none of us know what is going on behind the scenes, Tim could be pushing them out of the door, or equally they might be playing up to get a move?

No it doesn't. They will only be sold if someone comes in with a good enough offer.

You know we have a Sporting Director, don't you?

Daft decision to get rid of either player.

Capoue looked excellent when he first arrived and provides us with a legitimate DM option if Sandro is out (Bentaleb is still far too inexperienced to be relied upon).

And Holtby is very versatile and has shown what a useful player he can be in the attacking third.

Obviously we don't know who is making these decisions, but I don't think these two would have been on their way out under AVB which does suggest it's Sherwood's decision.

Personally I don't think he should be allowed to sell anyone unless we are confident that Sherwood is staying for the long term. So if we are selling, in a way I hope it's Levy's decision...otherwise something is seriously wrong.

I think Holtby is a good player... can pick a great through ball and is improving... but I agree wholeheartedly that Eriksen is far a superior footballer.

It's as Sherwood says, we have got a lot of midfielders, they're not all going to get regular games unfortunately. The signings of Eriksen, Paulinho, Capoue and Lamela were all meant to be upgrades on Sigurddsson, Holtby, Livermore and Huddlestone... not to mention supplementing Dembele, Lennon etc... and now the likes of Bentelab and Townsend are emerging into first team players. Good chance that Tom Carroll maybe added to that next season.

No way all those players can be happy, so if someone wants to be a nailed on first teamer every game, then at least Sherwood won't stand in their way. And it makes some sense that if some of those players who would want to leave are ones we can make the most profit on, then we may as well take advantage.

So refreshing to hear a Spurs manager not whinging about new players, 'happy with the squad I've got and if nobody leaves I'll be delighted, we've got good players!'

'If i don't get top 4 it will be goodbye Charlie'.

'I've got to deliver, it's all about results'.

'The players think they can compete with the best, they have to prove it'.

I love it, a down to earth manager not complaining or bullshitting.

We have too many players for too few positions. Holtby hasn't done enough to suggest he deserves to start over Paulinho, Sandro or Dembele.

German U21 captain. He can lead
He's been described by other team members (referencing some ITK that came via the coach driver on here a couple months ago) as pretty annoying and immature

Which I can well imagine looking at his social media stuff

I know we're loaded with players, but I think its a bit risky to let people leave in January..... I would rather keep them both and let them leave in the summer if its still the case...

Once the Europa league kicks in again, we're going to be seeing these midweek / weekend games and I think having fresh (quality) players available is going to benefit us. we don't want our top players playing both games, we need the rotation (especially against the weaker teams)

what happens if Ade gets inured , defoes off to Canada, so it would only leave soldado (not counting Kane)... this would perhaps mean a changing in formation back to the 1 up top and more midfielders, where Holtby or Capoue could be utilized? Same applies, to Dawson / Chirches Vertonghen etc, we have seen Capoue help out in the back four.

IMO I would wait till the summer, see if Tim's still with us, if not then the new manager might want either of these players then get rid.... just not January..

I would have thought it would have made sense to do little or no business in this window

Having sold JD then a replacement is probably needed. Rose is really the only LB we have and he is not good enough so a first choice LB is rerquired

Outgoings should be kids and loans. It has been a turbulent first half to the season with not only an influx of new players but a change of manager and no certainty about who will be manager next season

I would have thought it is time to be Cool Hand Tim and stick with what you have.

I don't really see the point in any sales this window because realistically we don't know who the manager will be come next season.

With regards to Holtby, he's a player I really do appreciate. He has that creative spark otherwise he wouldn't be given that role in the german youth sides and he puts his shift in defensively. But he relies on movement of those around him and in his time here with AVB as manager we have been frighteningly static when on the ball. Under sherwood that is changing and I'd like to see Holtby be given more opportunities in this attacking side before making a decision on him leaving.

Eriksen is the superior player no doubt in my eyes but having said that they should be played in different roles. Eriksen is more of a VDV and should have a more advanced position while Holtby suits being deeper. He has the energy to play that role just he tries to do to much and ends up out of position, maybe thats due to the lack of movement though?

With experience and coaching playing in the role I can see him becoming a very accomplished cm. In fact, if he had of moved to arsenal I wouldn't be surprised if he was playing in front of Wilshere, or at least giving him strong competition by now due to wengers training.

This is most likely near the truth world cup year more than any other if they cant see a way into the managers thinking and onto his teamsheet maybe they have asked to go if there is a possibility
