The Telegraph reported two days ago (in a listicle, it should be noted) that we remain interested in Timo Werner. This would tie in with Rob's snippet that we have been in Germany. Werner also fits the profile of a pacey wide forward who can slot in as a No. 9, similar to Balde and Martial (which also ties in with the ITK about potentially needing to be able to serve as a Janssen replacement). We were linked heavily with him two years ago so he's been on our radar.

Apologies to the mods if the Telegraph article is too tenuous of a link but given the convergence of the ITK and the fact that his name was mentioned as someone who we "remain keen on" I thought this was worthy of discussion, but would be happy to delete this post if it's not considered acceptable.

It isn't a formal article, I agree, and as I said if the link is too tenuous then the thread should be locked or deleted.

Werner is an absolute baller but playing on a champions league team with plenty of money...think he will stay there at least another year

Werner would be a fantastic buy, so to would Brandt if we are looking at young wing/forwards in Germany. Would happily take ether. Not that we will.

Funny enough Werner was the first person that popped into my head when I read Rob's Germany tease.

who died and made you the mod?
Nobody, I'm just aware of the rules that a link needs to come from a reputable source. This struck me as a borderline case so I thought I'd mention it in my original post and when questioned about it.

Ironically, of SSN picked up a story after fishing through this thread, would we then be able to quite SSN as a source to keep the thread open??

We were linked to Werner a couple of years ago when he was raw, and I remember the debate between him and Nathan Oduwa who is 1 day older. Most of us wanted to stick with Oduwa including myself, and the rest is history.

However if we signed Werner back then I don't think he'd be the player he is now. He might have just been another Holtby. Players should not move countries until they are ready.

RB Leipzig wouldn't have let Selke go if they had any intention of selling Werner. Would be exactly the same response as the dippers got on Keita.
