That was a horrible article. What kind of midfielder is he, central or wide? If it's the former, it's a no thanks from me, as we have already have too many of them coming through the ranks.

Sorry I disagree. It's investment for the future which we've been trying to do and why Mitchell is here. If he turns out better than our current crop then great. If not then we've not really lost a great deal - survival of the best - a kind of MS situation? France U17 captain.

We've just brought in Alli. We have Onomah, Winks, Carroll, Yahaya (I think) and who knows how many others in the pipeline.

So if we scout the next Zidane we shouldnt sign him because we have Winks? Sorry but that's a weak argument.

It's certainly not harming Chelsea is it? If you can get a top prospect, then you should go ahead. It's not like we are stock piling first team players, he'll either turn out to be a star or an investment.

We are being linked with a lot of Ligue 1 players this offseason
IMO France has by far the best youth prospects of any country in Europe.

They just won U17 Euro, the U20 World Cup, have players like Pogba, Varane, Griezmann, Lacazette, Kondogbia, Fekir, and more coming through. Lyon's youth academy is something special as well. Plus, France has a similar play style to England - French players aren't afraid to "get stuck in" and usually have no issues with the physical rigor of the Prem. Stambouli and Capoue aren't exactly shining examples of this but there's a lot of underrated talent in France, and I like that we seem to be targeting the French players.

It's difficult to judge players like Capoue and Stambouli when they hardly set foot on the pitch. There is a general assumption that they were not physically up to the task but that assumption wasn't backed by anything concrete. The assumption has now reached the stage where it is widely accepted as fact without any evidence to support it.

We complain when we buy a player (with future potential) who he is cheap and young.
We complain when we spend loads on a player that was cheap, available and young(er) a couple of seasons earlier.

I'm not sure what our fans really want.

In addition to some of the experienced players that we might need to fill up the first team squad,
I'd rather buy a few young players, if they were cheap and had potential to be top players, even if a few of them
were playing in the same position. We could loan them out and see if they turn out alright. We can always sell them off
if they don't turn out to be up to our expectations and as they were cheap, the losses, if any, would be minimal.

However, if more than one of them fulfil their potential and if they play in the same position, we could sell one or more
of them at a profit.

Of course, this doesn't mean that we should go out and buy every youngster that's available in the market.
Our scouting and coaching teams would have to do their jobs in selecting the ones with potential.

Sounds like shampoo and brandy. There's gotta be a song in there somewhere.
