#thfc Predictably, today's press conference focused on the goalkeeping situation. AVB has spoken to Lloris, and Friedel will keep his place.

Ben Pearce@BenPearceSpurs
#thfc AVB: "We feel that Brad is looking consistent, and deserves bearing in mind his performances against Norwich and against West Brom."

Ben Pearce ‏@BenPearceSpurs
#thfc AVB: "At this moment in time it was extremely unfair not to give Brad the opportunity to continue in his position.

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial
Andre: The new training centre is amazing. State of the art from rehab to training facilities. We need to make the most of it

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial
Andre: We want to put things right in our next game against Reading with attacking football & good passing.

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial
Andre: Important that the market is closed and the players are back from international duty.

Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial
Andre: We have world class players that we're looking to fine tune.

Ben Pearce ‏@BenPearceSpurs
#thfc AVB made point that Sigurdsson is the only summer signing to start his 1st game. Vertonghen, Adebayor & Dembele all started on bench.

Ben Pearce ‏@BenPearceSpurs
#thfc AVB said it's "highly unlikely" that Spurs will pursue Moutinho: "Its not likeable that we go back in January" - a different market

Ben Pearce ‏@BenPearceSpurs
#thfcAVB reports that there were no major injuries during international break - but Dempsey and Sandro are jet-lagged

The GK situation is beginning to look amateurish.

I really hope Lloris starts against Lazio and then keeps his place.

What has been done to make the goalkeeping situation look amateurish?
It certainly wasn't amateurish buying one of Europe's most highly rated keepers.
It wasn't amateurish not playing him when he wasn't, er, eligible to play.
It wasn't amateurish complimenting Friedel for a man of the match performance...shock horror, man who Press accuses of lacking man management shows some man management, so they find something else to complain about.
It isn't amateurish allowing a goalkeeper who has never played in the EPL to acclimatise.
It isn't amateurish inculcating a culture where places have to be won and players aren't dropped no matter how well they play.

I note that when Fergie put de Gea straight into the goal for United, even though he had no experience of the EPL, and it went kinda pear-shaped (which I thought was kinda obvious, which was why I suggested it would happen last Summer), the Press weren't falling over themselves to slate Fergie and accuse him of being amateurish.

If anything, I would say it shows professionalism and a touch of rresolution to not put Lloris striaght in just because the Press have made a song-and-dance out of an absolute nothing story.

Perhaps you could elucidate just where you think the club/AVB have been amateurish in regard to this matter.

I think AVB is being overly cautious, for example Adebayor, not match fit, fine, he needs to get match fit. Harry just started him first game. We need a middle ground. Same goes for other players, is a Dembele, who isn't used to players still better than Livermore? Probably yes. Too cautious and before anybody gets horny, i'm one of avbs biggest fans.

That is the middle ground though. I actually agree with it and I'm no fan of Livermore, Friedel or Defoe. There's long term logic in there. He didn't start them, he made them subs and brought them into the game after having a subs warm up. When not properly conditioned it's when a player is fatigued that he'll pick up bigger injuries, by not giving them long enough to get fatigued he's hopefully preserving them for the longer haul.

We are three games into a completely new regime, training, coaching, tactics, players, coach. Despite not setting the world ablaze, but for three late pieces of clumsy misfortune we'd already have 7 points. And we'd have just about deserved 5 of them and would still have better players to come back and no-one would be bemoaning how the squad has been used so far - he'd have been a genius.

Why is it amateurish? Any outfield player who had clearly been our best player in the previous game would not be dropped, so why should the goalkeeper?
Lloris will get his chance soon I am sure. I expect he will take it and keep the Number 1 spot. Have a little patience and calmness.

Sounds like Livermore and Dembele in front of the back four, Lennon, Sig and Bale behind Ade...

Your wrong, dude.

Everyone knows are strongest players.

Nobody including the manager at this moment knows the strongest team.

Only a few days with the full squad, post window and post international break

This my friend is a work in progress.

Harry was (rightly) criticised for not utilising the squad, which for two seasons in a row saw a dramatic drop off in performance.

AVB is likely to want to use his squad. It makes sense to try and keep this squad happy, hence his reluctance to put players straight into the starting line-up. Lennon will start ahead of Dempsey, and whilst I'd prefer Dempsey to start as I suspect he'd contribute more, I also recognise that it is likely to benefit us further down the line when both Lennon and Dempsey are motivated to perform well, and knowing that nobody is guaranteed a starting place.

To be honest I'm struggling to get used to the squad rotation approach after a few years of Harry picking the strongest team available week in, week out. However if it leads to more consistent performances over the whole season (rather than just part of it) then I'm all for it.

Just a shame we sold all our squad depth.

drawing at home to west brom and norwich when in all honesty we came very close to getting a serious beating in both( only for the heroics of brad) is seen as progress... yeah work in progress my arse.... wrong tactics and players selected and this is not rockets science here... one wud understand if it was city at home we were playing and struggled or united or any of the top teams but when it was a clusterfuck against teams mid table at best and your team plays like a team who hasnt got a fucking clue whats its doing... yep work in progress haha...

he is pissing against the wind and all this rubbish he sproutes of a win will come when it comes better come quick for him and spurs.. last week he said getting a win as quickly as possible is vital now it will come when it comes...!!
