''Tottenham Hotspur want a further £5m from Swansea City for their England Under-21s midfielder Tom Carroll, having already agreed a deal for the same price for the full-back Kyle Naughton.''

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...kyle-naughton-nears-swansea-move-9990823.html

No quotes or anything, but it wouldn't surprise me that Swansea are interested. Probably just a convenient story rather than a factual one...

What would be surprising is that we would be looking to sell him as he starts making progress in the Prem, given uncertainties over other CMs in our squad I would have thought that evaluating him properly after the season would be the best option.

And surely he would be worth more than Naughton given his ability and potential? Though I don't think Naughton is as bad at RB as many make out....

From what I've seen he isn't good enough for us, doesn't do anything particularly well and too lightweight, we need to add a quality cm who can pass and tackle really well.

I don't think he'll make it with us.

I'd take the money and clear the path for Winks, Onomah and Pritchard

I wish I was wrong but Tom won't help in taking us where we to go. I hope Swansea are interested in a permanent deal and 5million plus would be great business for both clubs.

Would honestly hate to see him go unless we can bring in a CM this window. Have been impressed with his improvements of late, especially on the defensive side. Would not mind seeing him share time with Mason next season for the position, despite the fact it would mean we didn't improve this window.

I think he should be given a chance with us. Bet we would have accepted £5m for Harry Kane this time last season and look where he is now. Probably would have accepted even less for Ryan Mason who is a year older than Carroll and now a lynchpin in our midfield. I thought after the start of this season we would have learned to put more faith in our young players.

i can see potential in caroll but maybe too lightweight for us, am on the fence, alot of you guys would have happily got rid of Kane for 5mil at this stage of last season.

I'd be pretty upset if we sold Carroll without at least giving him a chance with our first team.

Is he really that much worse than those we've spent lots of money on in CM? Given he is homegrown, I would love to see him have a season with us and get rid of players like Capoue and Paulinho

Amen !

Well said !

I have always liked and championed this dude, to me there is something very special about this kid... I honestly think he can be a midfield don for us.

I'd like to see him given a chance but I'd understand if he was sold given the sheer number of academy CMs we have, unfortunately not all will make it with us. I like @Larryjanta's suggestion though

I'd be perfectly happy for Carroll to be with us next season but only if we can give him enough game time to do himself justice. We all know we need another cm Schneiderlin/Mccarthy/cabaye etc and he's already behind Bentaleb and Mason. Once we do that we'd need to sell stambouli, Capoue, Paulinho and dembele to allow Carroll to be fourth choice otherwise we'd be hindering his development. We have to think of winks' and veljkovic's development too.

Personally I'd be happy with that but I think it's unrealistic to shift that amount of CMs by the end of august

Kane and Mason showed different qualities that fit and lets remember that Poch has been able to look at Carroll already as is. We held off making those sales to let Poch get a look and lo and behold Kane and Mason made it while Carroll was loaned out (and now possibly sold).

Carroll's main problem is and has always been getting stuck in on the defensive side and without that looking to change moving him on seems like the most logical solution. Without that aspect to his game I can't see him getting the chance in Poch's side in the first place.

Didn't think he'd cut it with us at the start of this season, but he's been doing well at Swansea by recent reports - which has made me rethink slightly. Admittedly I've not seen him game in game out, but £5m is a nice little earner for the youth academy.

I think it can be argued that he has been given chances. He has just never established himself. Although I would love him to succeed with us, but sometimes it just doesn't happen.
