I'm not sure that really the case? I think it's more to do with the fact that some supporters aren't willing to throw the kid under a bus just yet?
Sometimes it's about the personnel around the player, just look at Joe Allen for proof of that. If memory serves me correctly, while he was at Swansea, he had stats that were comparable to, or better than the likes of Xavi. But since he's been at Liverpoo, surrounded by different players, his game hasn't been close to comparable to the level he was achieving at Swansea. I guess the same could be said of Sigurdsson, when comparing his form at Swansea to his form at THFC.
Maybe people are just refusing to write-off Carroll because they feel/believe he could perform in a team that sees him surrounded with better quality players? I'm not being purposely argumentative, far from it, I'm just suggesting why some people 'may' be allowing Carroll a little more time before fully writing him off.
Not writing him off, but just saying I don't understand how he got such a great reputation with so many Tottenham fans after about 100 minutes of league football. And yes, he does play with his head up, but there is not much to his game that's all. As for Joe Allen, I could have done what he did at Swansea. He took the ball off the centre backs and passed to the full backs - just like Leon Britton. His pass completion was near to 100%! When he followed Rodgers to Liverpool for some ridiculous amount of money someone suggested that he might need to do just a little more and he was completely out of his depth. I do hope that's not what Carroll becomes, but I don't see enough in his game to suggest he will ever hurt the opposition.
