Tottenham Hotspur have been interested in making a move for young Tomas Pocchetino. The footballer is, as far as we can tell, no relation to the Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino. Current Italian champions Juventus are confident that they will be able to complete a transfer of the player, according to reports in Italy, but they've not got things all their own way.
The idea of the Turin club is to buy Pochettino and then 'park' him at Sassuolo to develop, before bringing him back to Juventus to fight to get into the first team squad. In turn, Sassuolo would have some kind of ownership rights and get a small fee when the youngster went to Juventus permanently. Such an agreement is much more common in Italian football than in the Premier League.
It sounds like something of a joint transfer. However, no deal is done and Juventus are looking toward the January transfer as the time when they think they can get Pochettino from Boca Juniors. Tottenham Hotspur are stated as being interested too, and have been for some months, and the lure of their very one namesake could be a motivation for Pochettino.
The 18 year old can play as a classic winger or as a central midfielder and he's about to get an EU passport, something which would greatly assist in any transfer. It would negate the need for any buying club to obtain a work permit, something which is becoming increasingly tricky.
