Even better then, 7 games remaining after the next two, less points.

That part of looking over our shoulder lessens, and it's literally down to chasing, would be a good position to be in to be honest with you.
As long as we're in touching distance I think this is good for us. Focus on catching Leicester rather than looking over our shoulder.

People think we will steamroll Villa, I wouldn't be too confident, some on here thought we would batter Arsenal and get a draw from West Ham and look how that turned out.

Villa might be utterly shit and yes on paper we should be dismantling them, I am not saying there will be a good excuse for anything but a win but I am also saying that nothing is impossible and it's these type of situations where things normally cock up.

The players need to approach every game like a cup final and honestly I am worried if we are going to be starting Mason and a few of the less regular players in games like this because frankly we dropped silly points last year with these players in the side and I don't want us to revert back to that.

I'd we don't twat villa then we don't deserve top 4. Arsenal and West Ham are two teams not that far behind us that are highly motivated to beat us.
Villa are utterly broken and pathetic.

The big worry I have is that we're where we are because we had a run of games where we met a lot of out of form teams and our elevated position is a little artificial:

From our 8 out of 11 wins, 4 were against Norwich and Watford, and 1 against Palace, and they've all been on losing runs. We caught Southampton and City at good times when they'd both been very inconsistent, and add Swansea to that. Against in form teams in Leicester and West Ham we didn't do so well. Our next biggest tests, assuming we beat Villa, are Bournemouth and Liverpool, both of who have hit a bit of form, and I think we'll know a lot more after those two games.

Norwich took points off Arsenal and West Ham, and should have taken points off Liverpool. Swansea beat Arsenal. Watford thrashed Liverpool and took points off Chelsea. We played City the first time they had all four of their key players on the pitch at the same time since August. That was a good time to play them? Southampton's next game after we beat them they beat Arsenal 4-0. I think you're just looking for a reason to diminish our impressive run of form.

Think we should be hoping that Liverpool beat United in the Europa League. We play them the weekend before the first leg of the quarter final. If they get a tough draw they may look to rest players and focus on the Europa League if they have pretty much nothing to play for in the PL and no FA Cup

If we get past Dormund I'd rather Utd as then we play Utd after they have played the Thursday too. if we don't get past Dortmund I'm then undecided, as Utd playing a few days before us might give us the edge

We shouldn't underestimate anyone, but lets be sensible here; Villa have 16 points, we have 55. That's quite a difference and there's a reason why, we're a vastly superior team.

If we go in the with the right attitude we'll beat them.

The only reason that we won't beat them is complacency and if we have that, the whole team and coaching staff need shooting.

Anyway, that's me done with this thread, you are all depressing me especially that @Mullers

Partially true, Liverpool and Citeh both have a game in hand, having only played 28 to our 29. That does give them that extra game to pull back on us, but they are both in European games so will have to cram in that extra PL game.

One thing is for sure we must just concentrate on one game at a time and see where we end up.

If we fail to beat Villa, we are literally handing over our 3 point advantage over Arsenal ,as they play them last game of tHE season(home) and there is no way they won't beat them. The only other direct match up is we both play WBA at home.
Unless we draw , of course, and then we are just handing over 2 points!

the only bonus about the WBA match-up is Pullis wants 1 more pt for the magical 40, by time we play them they should have that

Hopefully Berahino won't try too hard to make sure that he is playing in the Champions League with us next season.

IF my aunt had balls she would be my uncle

Love people making all these if's and predictions, if this season has shown one thing it's that you cannot predict anything.

Top 4 is now certainly the aim, weve shown we dont have the mentality or balls right now for a title fight. One game at a time and Villa's up next. I fully expect the team to turn up thinking they just need to walk on the park and they will win and then even though its happened to us about 3.8 million times before and have never learned... wake up and realise were in a game.

I don't want to come across as rude mate, but what do you base that assumption on?

The next two games are crucial in my opinion. Win them both and we'll be in a very healthy position but if we drop points, it sets up a very tricky, and potentially nervy, April.

If two indifferent performances against two good teams is the criteria by which teams are judged to lack 'the mentality or balls for a title fight', then I guess there is no title race to speak of, as there isn't a contender among the top 4 who you couldn't say the same, or worse about.

If we do lack the balls or mentality for the fight then I'd suggest it emanates mainly from some sections of the fanbase, who are ready to throw the towel in after a minor downturn in form following six wins on the bounce.

Do Man City who lost 3 in a row in the league before beating Villa, and Arsenal who haven't won in 3 league games have the balls and mentality for a title fight ?

Never mind that we've won more points from losing positions than any other team in the league.
