Tottenham are preparing to enter the race for Southampton midfielder James-Ward Prowse and hijack West Ham's move for the England star, according to reports. The Saints skipper led his team to an opening win of the season against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, but his future at the south coast club remains unclear.

Given our existing CM options and that our signing of Maddison dilutes JWP’s value as a set piece threat, I strongly suspect this is a leak designed to up West Ham’s offer and that we’re not really interested.

The wording couldn’t be any more woolly either: “Preparing to enter the race”. A ‘race’ in which West Ham are currently the only runner? Yeah I reckon this is definitely bullshit coming from Southampton or Ward-Prowse’s agent.

I’m in. We’ll need someone to take penalties once Kane leaves. 😂😂

After the Danjuma hijacking we’ve developed a bit of a reputation. Levy’s out here in the EPL window like he’s playing GTA.

No thanks. Great at set pieces but nothing special in normal play. If we want another midfielder there are better options out there, and we'll get better value abroad.

HG is the only possible reason I can think of, but even then it doesn't make much sense.

This is definitely just our name as it seems believable as its the sort of player we would definitely have been in for in the past

I don't believe this but wouldn't mind it at all as a PEH replacement, not if it means Gio is going.
Teams would be so scared to tackle our wingers if we had JWP and Maddison both on the pitch for free kicks! And Porro!!

A good friend of mine is a Saints fan and generally rates their players correctly.

He believes he's a good player with a great free kick but falls short of top 6 quality overall.

I'm not completely against the signing but ultimately it's big money on a good squad player.

Any chance we can ‘unhijack’ this… not what we need. As others have said/alluded to… take his set pieces out and we’ve another average midfielder we’ll struggle to shift

I'd prefer Gallagher to him but he'd be better suited to Ange's style of football than PEH for example.

Just never a top 4 player, which is hopefully where we are aspiring to get back to? £40m would be better spent on another high quality CB, (Not Lenglet although this cheapo is probably nailed on). IF Kane goes we should be investing all of that trying to bring in Vlahovic, Muani etc. I just don't see why JWP is a priority and if we are paying that for a midfielder why not grab Lavia, 19 years old? and a far better prospect.
