Really can't believe I've just heard this but chap on talksport was talking about spurs bring his second team. His favourite team is, and you won't believe it , Arsenal. I kid you not absolutely nuts. Can this really be possible.

Depends how old he was I guess. Bruce Forsyth is on record as saying he supports both us and the gooners. I think it was quite common many years ago for North Londoners to watch one team when the other was playing away.

Either that or he's an idiot.

I can go better.. My old man (lifelong Spurs fan) has been to The Boleyn more than he has to WHL...

We can write that one off as simply the fact that tickets to the Boleyn have been considerably cheaper over his lifetime :sneaky:

You know, cuz they suck and haven't been in the top division that time n all

And easier to get hold of.

My Grandad used to support all London sides, but nowadays it's safe to say he's not a real fan of either.

Sounds like someone who has a passing acquaintance with football.

I know my Dad would go to games of all the London clubs including us, Arsenal and Chelsea. I think he just appreciated seeing football live TBH and he came from a pretty poor background- I think it maybe be more common with the older generation.

I have an elderly Uncle who is in his 90's, he along with two or three friends used to go to Spurs one week and Highbury the next from just after the War until the 1970's when he stopped going because of the crowd trouble. He says he just enjoyed watching live football and would not call himself a particular fan of either Club.

It seems like an alien concept to me though.

So what do you think caused the split then and mentality so many have today such that supporting multiple clubs is untenable? I have noticed that German fans for instance often pick multiple clubs, so what do you think it is about English football that fostered the rivalries, and when? Was it the firms? Simply the proximity of so many clubs?

I weirdly have Chelsea as a sort of second club, was forced upon me by my brother before i really got into football properly, went to 1/2 matches and met the team in the tunnel during Mourinho's first stint, then when i was about 14/15 my Dad took me to White Hart Lane and I was hooked instantly, mainly because of the song "he's got no hair, but we don't care Martin, Martin Joel". Went to Stamford Bridge with my brother on boxing day, team was great, atmosphere wasn't, definitely made the right choice.

My granddad had a ST at Spurs in the 60s, lifelong Spurs fan but whenever I see him he's always moaning about how badly Wenger is doing at Arsenal. It's definitely a generation thing.

Very strange indeed.

Then again my next door neighbour who is 82 btw supports all the South coast clubs, especially Portsmouth and Southampton!

I reckon I've been to Old Trafford more times than 99% of Manchester United supporters

Four times between 1972 and 1999.

No we watched Spurs reserves and getting updates from first team away game with big cheers every time a goal was put up on the West Stand sideline board.

Would be never go watch Woolwich. We were also far superior in 50s / 60s anyway.

Well i dont gave a second club per se, but i am pulling hard for Burnley to stay up and will root for them in every match they have left...except for our return fixture where i hope we smash 'em.

Probably because i like seeing the underdog achieve something. I was delighted when Sunderland was able to stay up last season and was pulling for them to be able to do it.
