On-loan Nottingham Forest full-back Djed Spence is reportedly set to complete a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur from Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window. A reported £10million fee is understood to have been agreed between Spurs and Middlesbrough which will mean Spence will be a Premier League player next season regardless of the play-off final's outcome.

Nothing is certain until over the line. For now this is just one of dozens of links to players we are 'after'. Still I am sure some people love this stuff. When a player signs I will then find out about them but until then there are better things to do

The paratichi effect?

Part of keeping the manager happy is getting them in early after all. Loving this.

I've always been in favour of signing young British talent, think Bale, Walker and Dele, rather than overpriced cast offs from PSG and Barca such as Aurier and Royal (improved last few games for sure). Always lots of spec in the transfer windows but I'd love this one to happen, the lad seems to be a great prospect.

Watched him play a number of times and he has been so so in most of them. A big no for me. I hope I am wrong and will give him a chance. In Conte I will trust.

We have to keep our fingers crossed. Sessegnon is only starting to make good after 3 years, and we have still waiting for Jack Clarke. Young players are always a coin toss.

Like a previous poster, I'm not sure about Spence he's never really shown me anything at Forest or Boro to tell me he will make it in the prem. But if Conte and his team want him then I will bow to their better judgement. At a reported £10m if it works then its a bargain.

Conte has a good history with improving players like him.
Let's wait and see

My theory on buying young players is we need to buy them at a stage when they are nearly ready to start playing for us. Bale, Lennon, Walker and Alli all came in and played straight away. Rose was a first team squad player after 2 seasons.

The likes of Parrett, Bostock and others that were years away never developed for us to a level where they played for us.

If we buy Spence it has to be in the hope that he is within 2 seasons of being ready to start playing for us.

Not strictly true, Walker went out on loan three times in the first two years, back to Sheff Utd, then QPR? and then Villa. Bale had a really tough first year or so, and Redknapp? nearly sold him to Forest.
But I agree mostly with what you've said. If we get get Spence at a reasonable price there's little downside.
We can't sign many players "oven-ready" for vast sums, so a sprinkling of frees like Perisic and hopefully Eriksen, and a few youngsters that Conte/Paratici gamble on, will add to the few big signings we do make.

Walker spent a bit longer than I remember before joining but like Rose became a first team player for us after 2 seasons. Bale was a first team player for us from the first season he joined us so I don't know what your point is there. HIs issues were injuries rather than not being ready.

It's the players 3 seasons and more away from being ready to start playing for us that I am wary of.
