Tottenham Hotspur are on the cusp of bringing set-piece expert Gianni Vio (above right) in to join Antonio Conte's backroom staff. Vio, 69, has worked for a number of teams, including Italy at Euro 2020, Catania, AC Milan, Leeds, SPAL and Brentford. He claims to have mastered 4,830 different set-piece routines.

Which, coincidentally, is the same number of goals we concede from set pieces each season.

All the focus, here as well as in the press, is on attacking set pieces. It’s not clear whether his remit will also include setups, positioning, goalkeeping and marking to defend set pieces. Does anyone know?

I remember when Conte joined there was speculation about which of his backroom team would join. One of those was a defensive coach, and he didn't end up joining.

Can't remember his name or whether it's the same guy, I'm afraid. Someone else probably will, though.

You'd hope so, otherwise we'd probably have one boot boy for right boots and another one for lefts.
