What a really stupid article. In the article, "Nicholas Godden" highlights the 5 signings we have already made for this season, 4 of who were signed before the first game. He appears to gloss over the fact that in 2013 we spunked money like nobody's business on 7 players with the Bale money, almost all of who were signed in the summer break and most before the start of the season. "Signed late" he claims.

Furthermore he alludes to a number of teams (using Berbatov as an example) who purchase big name players on deadline day. Have teams stopped signing players now that the season has started? No. Many teams across Europe continue to sign key players. It is how the window works.

Finally, given he is a sports (mainly football) correspondent, why does he not understand the reluctance of clubs to sell early in a window, unless a dramatically large / too good to refuse offer is made for players they want to keep - I assume he doesn't, otherwise he wouldn't have written this article.

while i admire levy for the training ground and the pending new stadium
we are gonna need a f**ckin good team to fill it regularly.
and it is the team which always suffers.
lewis is just as much to blame
when the window shuts we would of played four games and dropped vital points , because the squad is in incomplete.
one striker goin into the season who we are now told is fatigued
levy this is embarrassing, but still profit before success

eh? Even if we finish 10th this season, I'll still keep my place on the season ticket waiting list. I may not love the football we play at time, but I can't help but love Spurs. And I hope anyone who only comes to games when we win gives up their ST's for actual fans.

And I don't think we always suffer. We've done pretty well over the last few years. Some near misses. You should spend some time with West Ham / Villa / Newcastle / Sunderland fans.

That is because every league starts on a different day. If the window were to close the day before the prem kicks off, the Spanish would feel hard done by, and rightly so.

It's the case now that leagues open and close transfer windows at different times:

"The transfer window in England closes on sept 1st at 6pm. France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Holland's closes on Monday 31 August at 23:59. The Dutch summer transfer window tends to open in the second week of June. The Portuguese transfer window stays open until 22 September. The mavericks.

Some leagues are in the middle of their seasons during our summer time, which means they will be having the equivalent of our month-long winter transfer window during the Premier League off-season.

Players in the leagues of Brazil, Sweden and Japan, for example, will have to be signed between mid-July and mid-August.

as people have pointed out, these stats could be used against many teams. Spurs, in particular, need to be cautious with their spending. This just seems to be a tirade against Levy. ITK'ers have already stated that this window is different. We have already improved our strike force with N'je (we hope) on last season and the expectation is that we will have another in place soon. We have improved the defence which was our biggest concern, the next concern is speed - which is being addressed.. and then back up striker come winger and then a strong DM which is being addressed. This could turn out to be our most significant window yet and we have rid most of the unwanted players. I have more faith this window particularly due to the appointment of Mitchell who very thoroughly analysis's potential signings to fit Poch's preferred style.
