Tottenham were the club to sell Bale to Real Madrid in 2013 and have an option as part of that deal to re-sign him, but there are certain conditions to it.

ManU, ManC and Chelski - even Liverpool - can easily outbid Spurs and on top of that offer him a much bigger salary than he'd get at Spurs.
Unless Bale loves Spurs more than £££ I can't see Spurs stand a chance...

The only way this would be relevant is if he flat out refused to sign for anyone else. We have to offer the same package to Madrid as anyone else so if we're 'outbid' then there's nothing we can do.

This raises a good question even if it's less than unlikely.
If we haven't bought anyone because we want to bring him back.... should we spend a huge sum on this one player? As in, at the sacrifice of squad players.

I'd still buy him over any player in world football as a marquee signing. We know he'll tear the premier league and champions league to utter shreds. Him and Kane could score 60 goals between them.

But we'd have 2nd choice full backs, no real width when required and very few backup players to fill in if it got worse on the injury front.
But Bale. At Tottenham... :love::love::love::love::love:

It would be amazing but it's a pipe dream let's be honest.

Even in a dream world, I'd be worried about his injury record these days.

Yes. Having Bale back is a mouthwatering prospect indeed, and I agree that even with him as the only signing of the summer (maybe throw in a back-up rb) it would be worth spending the Bonzo/Sissoko/Ziggy et al. money on bringing him back. He would singlehandedly deliver the lift we need in the midfield/wing/striker department, and if fit could be the deciding factor in finally landing us some trophies.
The big stumbling block, however, is the small issue of his wages. As much as everyone might want him back, I don't see us blowing our wage structure like that, unless we could broker some sort of sponsored deal for him which sounds somewhat unrealistic.
Seeing him in a red or a blue shirt would be really horrible, but I don't actually think he is ready to return to the PL yet. With Ronaldo likely to leave Madrid within the next year(s) Bale just might see the chance to take over his place in an amazing side, and as long as they keep winning the CL leaving seems kind of daft anyway.

I agree with your reasoning but would add that one year when City won the league, they conceded quite a few goals but it mattered not as the scored freely to ensure the win. Fingers crossed that this could remain a possibility as, like you, I feel that Kane and Bale in this current squad would be lethal.

Real are brutal though. They may decide to sell Bale before he gets a chance to be King of the Bernebeau. I can't see why they'd sell him over Bemzema though personally.

It is very on unlikely we'll sign Bale but if we could that would be amazing. As for the wage's the only way i see around that would be to offer him a massive signing on fee.

If we have Bale playing on the right, he'll tie up the opposition's LB and left-side attacker. So our RB will be having a holiday on the pitch.:)

reason for Real not to sell him --- he comes back to the Prem and tears the place apart (hopefully but probably not in White)....adds to the global Prem brand. Ronaldo's star is diminishing, Mbappe is a brilliant player but not ready to be box office yet....

So if we have a clause for 72 hours to match any bid, what then? Where is the advantage of this. If the clause wasn't there would there be any reason why we couldn't match the bid? If the bid is up do we get another 72 hours to match again? What happens then, does Bale choose his destination making any clause pretty bloody useless if he decided he wasn't headed our way anyway? I can't see how any of this makes any sense at all. Maybe if I watch Fire Walk With Me the whole world's mysteries will fall into place :(

It's interesting that it's in there at all. Can anyone ever see DL paying the kind of money it would take to bring him home? I think it was more likely put in to mollify THFC supporters when he left. Either that or the intent would have been to use it on an older, cheaper Bale.
