Tottenham are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Chelsea over Conor Gallagher as they look to poach the England midfielder in January for a fee of £40million. Gallagher has captained the Blues on several occasions this season, but that has not stopped Todd Boehly and co from entering talks to sell the 23-year-old to their London rivals.

They have been unable to agree terms on a new contract with Gallagher and run the risk of losing him for nothing in 2025 when they can make £40m of pure profit on a player that came through their famed Cobham academy.

It would be tough for Poch to stomach the sale of a player who he currently plays for all 90 minutes of most games. He's played in 19/20 PL games this season, only missing one due to suspension (after five bookings).
When Alderweireld and Eriksen refused to sign new deals, Poch dropped them from the starting XI and severely limited their playing time. He hasn't done the same with Gallagher, but perhaps that's because he has 18 months left on his contract, not only 12 months. His contract expires in summer 2025.
I'm not going to complain if we sign him now, but I would have thought Poch / Chelsea would be more open to this in the summer. When you look at what we paid for Johnson, £40m seems quite fair and reasonable, but it's not as much of a bargain as the £40m we paid for Maddison.

It's not a bargain at all. There are many reasons for Chelsea being shit but Gallagher playing so much and seeing so much of the ball seems to be one of them. Fans like him because he's busy and gets stuck in but there's a glaring lack of quality there.

Can only assume this means we have a good deal lined up for Hojbjerg. Ange must have a plan for Gallagher but I can't work out what it is to be honest.

I think this could prove to be an astute signing if it comes off. PEH out for circa £25m plus £15ish for CG, I like a lot, more so because Ange wants him and it shows Levy is backing his man, something we have all wanted for years.

Why would Chelsea want to sell us there best player and Captain?

(n)
Because Chelsea is run by people who are first and foremost financiers with little feeling for football. They think that by selling Gallagher they can book a £40m profit and avoid/postpone FFP problems. They don’t realise they are destroying the soul of their club.

Their loss is our gain.

I still would be surprised if we do this deal, but assuming we do I think he strengthens us considerably. I’m not sure what more people could expect from a guy who is going to come and be expected to rotate with Sarr, Bissouma, Bentancur etc. I think he at least rivals them for a position in the team and is a massive upgrade on Skipp and PEH.

CG is a very good player only turning 24, this would be a top signing.

it would really undermine him and show what a shit club they are.
