Can only imagine we're putting this out there (if it hasn't simply been made up entirely) to encourage West Brom to deal on Berahino. If not, what a hugely desperate signing this would be.

Here are his numbers (league only) from the past 6 seasons:
League 1 - Swindon - Pld 54 - Goals 31
Championship - Burnley - Pld 82 - Goals 41
Championship - QPR - Pld 31 - Goals 17
Premier League - QPR - Pld 35 - Goals 18
Overall league record - Pld 202, Goals 107 (a goal every 1.89 games)

For reference, Berahino's league career totals are 102 played and 31 goals (including league 2, league 1, championship and premier league games). Clinton Njie has played 96 games for Lyon B and Lyon, scoring 23 goals.

Honestly, the arrogance of some posters that Austin represents a "desperate" signing or is just a 5-million level player is mental. He compares more favorably than similarly priced options we're linked with. The guy has served a stellar apprenticeship and is 26. I don't understand what's not to like at around the 15 million mark, especially when we basically have one (in favour) number 9 in the squad.

(For the record, I'd like us to sign all three!)

The good name of Spurs being used here to get the actual interested club to increase bid. I doubt we have any interest, shame really, as at £15million, he would be a good backup option for kane.

I'd be very happy with Kane, Berahino and Austin, Austin would give us another option and if Trippier can provide the kind of crosses he looks to have in his locker that could prove an excellent combination. I thought he did really well last season and some of the goals he scored were of real quality
Of course I am old enough to remember Bobby Smith, I wonder what some people who talk about a Spurs player would make of Bobby Smith. He was a great Spurs player but it was often the direct approach that gave him goals. Of course he was brave as a lion and in those days if Smithy put the ball in the net he usually managed to put one or two defenders and the keeper with it and you know what it was great to watch and it provided options to players of real quality like John White who was like chalk to cheese.

That said playing one main striker rather limits the opportunities and I doubt Austin would be that happy being a bench player a lot of the time especially after last seasons PL goal success. Berahino is a more skilful and flexible striker and he could easily get games as a wide striker playing with Kane and interchanging roles, Austin is very much more the target striker.

So for me if we are going to add two strikers then for me Berahino and NJie seem the best options for their flexibility, skill and pace and for that flexibilty in particular for keeping the happier and getting more game time

What's with all the negativity? Austin seems quality from I've seen of him. Has made the required step in quality everytime it's been asked of him. I think he'd score a hatfull for us.. and in this market 15m for a striker full of goals is a bargain price!

Hi jols; the poll attatched to 'The Mirror' article gives a 72% positive fan rating for this deal to happen (for £15mill.), so the "desperate" signing believers represent some 28%.

I can't see it as a bad option.
Known to be available.
Impressive goal record, step up in competition has never affected his ability to still reliably find the net.
Would give us another presence up top, to rest/replace Kane when needed, and with 4 competitions to deal with again, game time isn't going to be an issue.
I see Berahino having more upside based on age and potential, plus versatility, but I still believe Austin could be an astute signing.
If Soldado goes soon, Berahino drags on, and Austin still hasn't been snapped up, I can see a deal being done.

The goal vs Southampton is up there with Berkamp against Newcastle.*

But because he's English and plays for QPR no one would dare to say it.

*I'm not saying he's the next Berkamp.

Austin might not be a glamorous big name signing but he's someone we need, Kane can't play every game this season. Austin is the type of player who will push defenders around in the box and will bust a gut to get onto the end of crosses into the box.

We've been too lightweight upfront and always seem to get out muscled at set pieces in the opposition's area. At 26 years old, Austin is coming into the prime years of his career performance wise. Selling Soldado for £11-13m and spending that on Austin makes sense.

How anybody can fail to see that Austin for Soldado would strengthen the squad is beyond me.
Admittedly though there are other strikers who look better on YouTube.

I'd take him in a heartbeat.
Great strike rate in a VERY POOR QPR side.
I've stated before on here that my mate at QPR says he has a fantastic work ethic, really dedicated to self improvement, and is a modest and nice bloke too.
He'll get goals wherever he goes. On balance I'd prefer Berahino because of his pace, and ability to play wide. But Austin would be waaaaaay better and more hard working than Ade.
And in an ideal world let's buy both, we need a strong squad for 60+ games this season.
