Tottenham have put non-urgent contract talks on ice, including negotiations with Heung-min Son, while the club’s long-term financial outlook remains unclear.
Spurs' revenues have been decimated by the pandemic and manager Jose Mourinho suggested last month that it is impossible for clubs to tie down star players amid the ongoing uncertainty.

It's a non-story cooked up on some quotes from a month ago.

The best thing is the part where Jose says they want Son to stay for life if possible. And failing that they'd like him to stay to the end of his career.

So that’s their negotiation stance for now, then? To drive down asking salaries?
Well you wouldn't be a very good negotiator if you didn't have that goal as part of your thinking. A lot of clubs are facing a lot of uncertainty and we have just taken on a huge new debt so I can understand if they want to hold of on pay rises for now.

They're not stupid. They know this increases the likelihood of other teams making an attempt to pinch our players. So if they're making that decision it's not by choice imo.

My point is, this is clearly only a way of negotiating, not stopping them. Facts are that renewing contracts with existing players is way better financially than having to try to sign a new replacement.

But the players must also realise that the salary eldorado is pretty much over for the foreseeable future as clubs simply have to count their beans very scrupulously.
