Not able to do that due to Premier League homegrown player rules? Check.
There are no homegrown rules, just one that says you may have a maximum of 17 over-21 overseas players in your 25 man squad. Paulinho out, Konoplyanka in - no problem.

Surely Kono would just take Paulinho's place and we'd just have a smaller squad?

That's if I'm right in thinking Ceballos is registered in the PL and not EL, not the other way round

Not if we're getting rid of Lennon and Townsend as the post suggested. If it was just a straight swap for Paulinho, then yes.

It's worth noting that last season Pritchard and Mason were playing for the same League One team. Pritchard was voted Young Player of the Year and runner-up in Player of the Year. Whilst it would be presumptuous to suggest that because Mason has settled into our first team relatively easily Pritchard would do the same, Pritchard was by far the more impressive and has played well in the Championship so far in a team playing 'proper' football. It would have been beneficial for him to have been given more than seven minutes of our last two league games last season to see how he adapted to PL football.

Also our 25 man Premier League squad is only 23 players because we don't have enough homegrown players. If we were to sign Konoplyanka he would have to first be offset by selling one of our non-homegrown players to free up a place in the squad, whereas Pritchard is already listed amongst the eligible under 21 players and could play straight away after being recalled.
Still not sure how you can compare Prichard to Kono and saying you'd rather have him.

Well saying "I can't see him going anywhere but Spurs", to me, passes the optimism test. With flying colours.

If you view it as an isolated statement separate from the process of elimination and the context of moving in January given the predicted status of clubs who would interest him at the time/be able to afford him, then yeah I'm sure it does appear very optimistic.

Is analogous to you deeming me saying "I'm gonna get to the top of Everest in one day" as optimistic. Well yeah sure, if you remove me including the fact I'd have a helicopter take me up to near the peak.

Again, there is no minimum number of homegrown players, just a maximum limit on the number of over-21 overseas players. We can sell whoever we like as long as any overseas players bought only replace other overseas players.

Further to my post earlier in the thread, I would not be at all averse to Konoplyanka in, Lennon, Townsend and Paulinho out. That would leave us with Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli, Konoplyanka and Ceballos to choose from in the three behind the striker, with Kane, Mason and Dembélé all providing further options. Increase in available quality? Check. Profit? Check. Reduced wage bill? Check. Streamlined squad? Check.

Then in the summer move on Ceballos and promote Pritchard.
Add to that a striker that has pace and can play up top or out wide to replace whoever is looking like second choice out of either Ade or Soldado and we have even more quality options than we do currently.

Truth, but do you not suspect they'll likely give him an extension?

I haven't found anything that would hint at a possible extension being in the works. I did see Liverpool/Everton were reportedly interested, though.

Maybe not as of this moment or being reported to the public (most clubs tend to address last year contract questions in the winter), but you'd have to suspect they'd at least offer it. Two goals and three assists in nine games from a wide position? Just no way they wouldn't at least offer him.

Looks like he is intent on leaving as he has even changed agents to ensure he gets a bigger club. Doubt he will join us though.

Interesting. @Snarfalicious if this is news you had been considering in our discussion, I apologize for my ignorance.

Surprised to see this honestly. Were he to leave for a bigger club than Marseille at the moment, I can't think of any in which he'd slide right into a starting spot. Could see him being given good playing time at Arsenal though unfortunately, while not being necessarily guaranteed a starting spot.

No apology necessary. I heard he was looking to move and Marseille wasn't really interested in giving him the contract he would require to actually stay. I like Ayew, I think he's pretty talented and could at the very least provide us with great depth with the potential to have a very good starting player.

I would personally love an Ayew-in and Lennon-out scenario in January. Could realistically break even between the transfer cost/sale of each (maybe even net a mil of profit).

Just don't see the point, really. We need someone who can cross the ball consistently and accurately, it's the only way Soldado will do anything. Konoplyanka prefers to come in inside.
You really think we're looking to build a team around Soldado?

I can see this happening. Offers something a bit different to Chadli and would allow us to move on one (or even both) of Lennon and Townsend.

Not read down further but we'd need more home grown players in the rosta as we are at our oversea's limit.

To be honest, unless we can afford a Suarez or Aguero who can make their own goals, it'll be the same story whoever we sign. We need someone who can turn a defence and find a striker accurately.
