Tottenham are reportedly preparing an approach to Lille to sign Jonathan David with Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou learning that the Ligue 1 side have dramatically slashed their asking price for the striker.

There were rumours about him in the summer, at which point I would have been nervous about signing him.

24 goals in Ligue 1 last season was good (3rd top scorer behind only Mbappe & Lacazette, and miles ahead of Messi & Neymar, for context). His scoring stats in the two previous seasons were fairly decent for a young striker, but nothing special. Last season may have been a "purple patch" or he may have genuinely kicked on to the next level.

His goal output this season (2 goals in 12 games so far) doesn't fill me with confidence and would be justification for Lille's asking price to be "slashed" from whatever they would have demanded last summer. Perhaps they'd like to trade him for Ndombele. 😅

They can slash, squeeze and grind the price down to the dust of peanut shells: it’s still a “merci, mais no!”.

Finishing behind Lacazette is a no for me then
