Quite likely we were interested, he's a good young player the sort Poch likes. Monaco wanted some money probably from Kongdobia and selling this guy was plan b

A pity, but Monaco's coach in particular was adamant he wanted to keep him. Looks like the club backed him and getting a huge fee for Kondogbia took the pressure off needing to sell.

This isn't a position where we're desperate, can afford to sign someone lower down the list as cover. It's CM where the club really needs a top target imo.
