I was thinking that the reason Townsend was switched to the right instead of Lamela was to give Fredericks a bit of extra support but he looks pretty confident anyway

That's the difference with Townsy on the right - he often cuts in and that slows his run and momentum and the momentum of others getting up with him.

On the left he's much more fluid and much more consistently a threat imo.

No its not to be sniffed at. but you need to evaluate it in context, of the strength of the squad inherited and the investment provided to him.

You could argue that Jol getting 5th with his squad was a far greater achievement than us getting 5th last year with that squad.

The truth is we have had pretty shite squads through the last couple of decades so there is no real fair comparison we can make. Its like comparing Joe Royal and Roberto Mancini based on their records at City.

From what I remember Hughes' record at City was pretty good.

AVB had an 85m player scoring worldies last year to win us points from horseshit performances. This year he has 100m worth of new players. He has been provided with the fillet steak, Jol had rump.

So let me get this straight. You are prepared to cut moyes some slack because his championship winning team is not as good as ours. But not AVB for inheriting a team that hasn't won anything of note for 20 years. Interesting.

Defensively he's no worse then Naughton. He can bring the ball upfield to relieve pressure on the defence.
