Villas-Boas still needs to find the best position for Lamela

Lot of positives tonight though, Fredericks looks decent but didn't like his dive

He kicked his own standing leg. I'm not sure how much contact there was from the defender, but it definitely wasn't a dive.

But how much of the ball to townsend see?
I imagine if lamela had the ball as much, he would created more.

but Lamela didnt see so much of the ball. So why not?

Is he in the wrong possition, not looking for the ball ect?

To me it looked like the guy tried to obstruct Fredericks, didn't really make a lot of contact but did enough to disrupt his stride and meant he tripped himself up.

The guy definitely played for him, and Fredericks had the run on him. Does this then constitute a Penalty?... As a Spurs fan I think so :D

Was sat with Mick Jagger watching the game and, early on, we were both worried about the amount of effort the boys would put in. When the full time whistle blew, I turned to Mick and asked for his thoughts.

"Anji, Anji, they can't say we never tried", said Mick, which, I thought, summed it up quite nicely.

Townsend is like a headless chicken. Runs around a lot, never quite know where he's going or what he's going to do.
As a result can make something happen out of nothing, but often makes nothing happen from something promising.

yeah, there was a point towards the end where he was fooling himself - i instantly thought Dalmat!!!!!

He is certainly looking for the ball and he certainly looked better on the right.

I really like the look of Lamela, he is going to be a great player, but he needs time to adapt and he is young with a 30 million price tag.

But I personally believe he needs a constant run of games to really start feeling the the feel of the team and fitting in.

Second half on the left definitely.
First half lamela was much better.
Lamela looks to move the ball quickly and get in the box.
He tried a lot of through balls.
Dont think he played well tonight.
But saying that, he could have scored with the header and shot and had an assist.
So not playing great and still getting in scoring positions and assisting bodes well for him.

Lamela and Lennon for the right

Chadli and Townsend for the left

Perfect options.

A no brainer and the first half proved it.

Although, I can see Fredricks causing lennon some real problems in the future, I really like the look of the left back.

As it was said in another post, he is a right winger got moved to right back, but with Smith back at the club, if he gets pushed forward... Then I would really give him a shot on the right. Fredricks - Lamela as right wing options. Yes please.
