Love Wimmer. He's a brick shithouse with a superb reading of the game, is surprisingly mobile, and looks like he's been playing in the top tiers of the Premiership for 10 years. A bulky unit of a bloke, ain't many gonna out muscle him. 8.5m for a top quality centre back. :)

You just know he's going to thump in a header soon. :)

Well Liverpool just won 2-1 scoring both their goals when down to 10 men.

I think we can officially kill off the whole "we shouldn't concede against 10 men" farce.

I thought he was only £4.4m or something.

I was just thinking the same. I was one of the complainers yesterday. Heat of the moment. As others have mentioned, anything can happen in football.

Mata has been sent off for Man U. A lot of red cards are being shown this weekend.

Who made you king of what theories we can and can't use? You can't just apply what you said to every match; I would expect 10 man Barcelona to score against Aston Villa. Palace have worse form over the past 10-12 games than every single team in the PL, so I would expect Liverpool to still create. I wouldn't however, expect us to sit back against Arsenal and invite pressure after we scored the 2nd goal, that is inexcusable and it cost us the match.

Went back and watched the match until right before Arsenal's equalizer. Totally depressing, don't know why I did that to myself.

Question ... we have conceded more goals recently since the combination of Toby, Jan and Eric as holding midfielder has been broken. Wimmer has played well but does the three work as well as they had done all season? A real question as I am not sure if this is the underlying reason for conceding more goals

Well it's possible... Toby and Jan have a more natural understanding with each other that Wimmer hasn't had enough game time to replicate, but I don't think that's the sole reason.

The one thing I have noticed is in the past two games we haven't swarmed the opposition as much with our closing down (see man city vs toure). Is it tiredness, dip in Form, amalgamation of the lot?

Not sure.
But both Alli and Kane have looked a little jaded to my eyes... Still capable of great football, but not as consistent as they have been.

Young squad and we've punched a little above what we all expected this season,, but I'm wondering if the lack of experience and back up striker is now biting just at the wrong time.

Ah well, still lots to be proud of and we are still fighting on two fronts, so let's all stay hopeful a little while longer yet.

So.. why did Dier do that professional foul on Giroud minutes after getting his first yellow?
He surely couldn't have forgotten and he knew with this card happy ref that he should be getting red.
OK he was being pushed in the face, but the ref would have blown the other way if he thought that significant.

Did he want to get sent off? After all he is on the edge of a 2 match ban - presumably he would have got 3 with a second yellow, missing the villa bournemouth and liverpool games.
Trouble with this thought is we need him for the liverpool game and if this was the plan, why didn't he then bring down some other ****?

I thought it looked a bit of both with that incident. Giroud had him round the head trying to get past him, and Dier just grabbed him in response. Foul but it wasn't intentionally a professional foul, more the outcome of a scuffle.

I'm disappointed we didn't target Sanchez more, wind him up further to get him sent off. Not that I condone that sort of thing mind.

I think Lamela had that in mind.. the South American rivalry in addition to the NLD.. Lamela is smart, he won't stupidly get himself sent off over such incident, which I still rue him being subbed off.. he could get Sanchez to go though.. but Poch is always a nice guy... he probably prevented that..

If Dier gets another yellow he misses two games right? So he can't really afford to get one v Villa or Bournemouth. If he picks up one he misses two games but if he gets through the next 4 he's free.

I can't see him getting thru the next few without one so would it be best if he got one v Villa and missed Bournemouth and Pool?

We may have a mean defence but I worry about the lack of clean sheets.
Although Toby has been 1 of the standout performers this season, running towards goal instead of Ramsey for the first was a poor decision as was Wimmer's not even attempting to intercept the through ball for the second.
Just as disturbing is the poor decision making in the final 3rd as well as the lack of 1-2 passes in and around the 18 yard box, of which I can only remember Chadli and Davies doing so a few games back which almost led to a goal for Davies.

Basically poor decision making and not management is the reason for a bad result.
But I still have belief COYS
