In fairness to JD, in that split second he'd have thought there's a chance it could have come back off the post, he did what all good strikers should do and make sure.

Livermore was outstanding today, very impressed, especially as he was out of position.

I for one am glad Defoe has that instinct to score even at the cost of a fellow team mate. It's what all great strikers do. Last season he got a lot of grief for his lack of goals, but he now has 11 to his name and he isn't starting every game. I'm pleased for him.

Defoe shouldn't be criticised for taking that goal and the fans who booed are ****s. Yes, it was harsh on Gio, but we all know it was Gio's goal anyway. Defoe, however, is a striker, and his job is to ensure the ball crosses the goal line at any cost. That's what he did and I hope that he doesn't change. Selfish? Of course. But that is absolutely the right time to be selfish. It was 0-0 and all he sees at that point is the net, the goal line and the ball. If he doesn't do it and the ball hits the post, he gets criticised. Yes, it was going in anyway, but that's not his concern.

Defoe has faults, a great many, and he didn't even play that well today, but he scored a goal and crossed for Pav (after Gio's amazing through ball), I'm happy with that.

This happened during an England game didn't it. A n00b cap tapped in on the goalline - can't for the life of me remember who it was, but he was not castigised.

That player who scored 2 or 3 goals for Preston or someone and got a call up he should never have had, then went and failed big time at Portsmouth. Nugent was it?

Lennon was out for 3 weeks (Sunderland 18 December), not sure I call that a long time out. I would have preferred him to play first half to get back into the rhythem to prepare him for 2 tougher games against Everton and Wolves, and then bring on one of the younsters earlier to get more experience of playing in front of 36,000.

Defoe played the full game against WBA so didn't really need a match to maintain fitness.

I think Harry and the physio's are in a better position to judge his fitness in terms of what is appropriate for next week.

The more minutes today is a strong indication that Harry intends to start him against Everton IMO.

any booing of your own player, however intended, is ****ish. How's he to tell the difference?

no idea, never watched or listened to it, just seems an odd thing for the crowd to do. especially since JD the Yido is one of their favourites
