bizarrely enough i thought we played better when we went down to 10, and that seemed to spark life into T'hudd and Pav as well who i would have pulled at half time, but was quality 2nd half

Really good performance after the weekends shambles. Disappointed with VDV despite a good show. A man of his experience should know better. I expect a cooler head from him. I knew he was going to get sent off and I am sure it came across Harry's head too. I would have taken him off earlier but hindsight is a fantastic thing hey.

Anyone else liken Pav's 2nd half performance to that of Berbatov's against Bolton a few seasons back after Keano got sent off? Proved he can play as a lone front-man with enough support.

And no coincidence that the team and Pav started playing much better after Crouch went off. Pav is "suddenly" much more involved, there is more fluidity and more movement in the middle - because 1) we don't hoof the long ball to Crouch and play the ball on the ground much more; 2) because of that, players have to move more in the middle to create angles and move the ball quicker too, instead of crossing the ball from 30-40 yards away from the goal.

This is why so many would like to see Spurs play without the Crouch factor up front in more games. Not in every game, and perhaps not for the whole 90 min, but as much as possible. Crouch is a very good option in Europe, but after a while we do start being predictable in our approach (ball to Bale, run down the line, cross high to Crouch...).

Total crap.

We, including Pavlyuchenko, looked far more positive and purposeful as soon as the second half began.

I hope not, because it wasn't on the same planet.

Pav did really well but that Berb performance was utterly sublime. Gary Speed after all his years in the game wanted to swap shirts cos he said it was the best he had ever seen

Not quite as good, but I was impressed at how he finally learnt how to stay on his feet when holding the ball up having failed on many attempts in the first half. :)

He was great in the 2nd half, but Crouch was also a very important player throughout the game. Let's not forget how the first goal came about.

If we get rid of our soft touch and become ruthless then we will be a fantastic team, until then though we will always be the nearly team.

Was a good game too watch, we played well after starting very shakily. Bale and Van Der Varrt were fantastic in the first half and although it was soft it was definiently a penalty which should have been retaken after their keeper came two yards off the line.

After the break we looked a much stronger side, with Van Der Varrt scoring a great goal and then Pavyluchenko cooly tucking away a definent penalty. You just had the feeling Van Der Varrt was getting reckless and the sending off was silly, but fortunately it didn't cost us. Pavlyuchenko tucked it away cooly again and then Bale's finish was sublime as was his workrate.

Overall it was a good performance which was soured just a little by their diving cheating prick players (asking for people to be booked as well as putting in some poor challenges), VDV stupidity and a shockingly stupid moment of petulance from Tom Huddlestone for which he should have gone.

god no, not even close to being in the same bracket as Berbatov

Midfield held onto the ball in the second half, and i still dont think Pav had a good game or can play as a lone striker.

Are we just the entertainers of the Champions League or what? Another great game tonight. Full of drama.

Gotta love how fired up VDV was aswell. Silly red card, but it's great to see that passion. I've seen Rooney sent off a few times like that but it wouldn't stop the fans loving him because he's such a great player.

Great win tonight. We got the bit of luck we've deserved of late. The work rate was excellent. COYS!

That is harsh.

I'm definitely not a member of the Pav fan club but it took real balls to stick home those 2 pens. And he set up a sitter for Modric late on.

I thought overall he had a very good game.

Thank god for that.

Ridiculously out of control adulation again for Pavlyuchenko. Two cooly taken pens but like Crouch had quite a poor game.

Doubt it. as I said on the other thread:

He pushed his arms back, but they were waist height. The only reason the Twente player got caught in the face is because he was in the process of scything studs-up straight through his calf muscles.

I hate to be the bearer of good news, but we played fucking well, and if VDV had stayed on would have scored plenty from open play.

the third peno was pivotal. I wouldn't have fancied us at 2-1 with half an hour to go, with only 10 men, particularly the way we were defending, particularly from set pieces.
