[/ar]Spurs seeking to book their place in the Europa League group stage

Only a dramatic collapse at White Hart Lane on Thursday will see Tottenham bow out of the Europa League and Hearts progress at their expense.

Spurs picked up a comprehensive 5-0 victory in the first leg of their continental clash and would appear to have one foot firmly in the group stage.

Scottish Premier League outfit Hearts were hugely disappointing on home soil and will head to London in midweek looking to salvage some pride.

Paulo Sergio will be desperate for his side to at least grab a goal, allowing them to make some kind of impression in Europe.

His coaching rival Harry Redknapp has no such worries, with the Spurs boss in the enviable position of being able to shuffle his pack.

Tottenham play host to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday and they will have one eye on a crucial domestic encounter.

Redknapp could, however, be prepared to give a run-out to a number of his senior stars who are lacking in game time and could do with getting a few minutes under their belt.
Modric could play

Unsettled midfielder Luka Modric falls into that category and the Croatian could feature against Hearts, providing he shakes off a minor hamstring problem.

Steven Pienaar (groin), Wilson Palacios (knee), Jermaine Jenas (Achilles), Ledley King (knee), Alan Hutton (knee), William Gallas (calf) and Sandro (knee) are all unavailable and will play no part.

Youngsters Tom Carroll and Harry Kane are expected to make their debuts, as Redknapp will rest the majority of those he intends to use against City.

Sergio makes changes

Hearts manager Sergio will make eight changes to the side that was comprehensively outplayed at Tynecastle.

The Portuguese revealed his starting line-up on Wednesday evening, with Jamie MacDonald, Ryan McGowan, Marius Zaliukas, Eggert Jonsson, Scott Robinson, Arvydas Novikovas, Rudi Skacel and Gordon Smith all coming in after missing last week's first leg.

Kevin Kyle (hip) misses out and Stephen Elliot has been left in Edinburgh, with Sergio keen to avoid taking any unnecessary risks ahead of a derby date with Hibernian on Sunday.

Tottenham are set to rest several first-team players for the second leg of their Europa League play-off after hammering Hearts in Scotland last week.

Spurs, who won the first leg 5-0, will assess Luka Modric's fitness but will hand debuts to Tom Carroll and Harry Kane, and Andros Townsend will feature.

Jamie MacDonald will start in goal for Hearts and Ryan McGowan, Scott Robinson and Gordon Smith will also feature.

Rudi Skacel and Arvydas Novikovas return to the starting line-up.

"We have players who, like Rudi (Skacel), have not played much since the start of the season," said Sergio.

"They aren't playing a lot so it's an idea that I have in my head to play them. I think it would be profitable to give them some rhythm."

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp also sees the benefits of using some of his fringe players, especially as he still has a long injury list.

Steven Pienaar (groin), Wilson Palacios (knee), Jermaine Jenas (Achilles), Ledley King (knee), Alan Hutton (knee), William Gallas (calf) and Sandro (knee) are all unavailable, while Modric (hamstring) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) are doubts.

That means striker Kane, 18, midfielder Carroll, 19, and winger Townsend, 20, come into the picture and Redknapp said: "It's a great opportunity for them.

"It will be a great experience for them to play in a European game at White Hart Lane and it will give me the chance to have a look at them up against good opposition."

The winners will go into the draw for the Europa League group stage, which takes place on Friday at 1200 BST.

Provisional Tottenham squad: Gomes, Friedel, Cudicini, Bale, Kaboul, Bassong, Dawson, Corluka, Walker, Assou-Ekotto, Townsend, Huddlestone, Lennon, Van der Vaart, Kranjcar, Modric, Livermore, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Crouch, Kane, Carroll.

Provisional Hearts squad: Kello, Hamill, Grainger, Jonsson, Webster, Black, C Elliott, Driver, Templeton, Obua, Sutton, Stevenson, McGowan, Novikovas, Skacel, Smith, Zaliukas, Robinson, MacDonald, Novikovas, Mrowiec.

Right there is a game on, albeit the tie is dead - but it beats the shit out of the recent depressing ITK.

5-0 Kane hatrick, Townsend brace

Really hope we get to see some of the yoof tonight (in a non-rioting capacity).

There isn't any reason to play any of our first team so we should really be starting with the likes of Kane, Townsend, Carroll etc.

Match fitness, looks like (most) ran out at the weekend. Players like Hudd and JJ will need game time as well.

So a few of them need to play, but the likes of Bale and VDV can have the night off

Not often you get to sit and enjoy watching a Spurs game without worrying about giving another three points away or going out of a cup.

Looking forward to it.

I'd make Modric play, cup ties him which should quell any remaining interest from Chelsea, gets him some fitness in before the City game where I would say it's pretty important he plays and makes the club look like less of a bitch in the whole sorry affair.

Is there any indication of what the team will be tonight? I'd love to see Harry Kane get some pitch time.

Harry has indicated that he Carrol and Townsend will be involved, think he stopped short of confirming all 3 will start. Best bet is to mix them 3 with first teamers/fringe players, rather than play a whole youth side IMO.

Poor John Bostock really has fallen from grace hasn't he, doesn't even get a mention now.

I'm hoping that Huddlestone starts, he didn't look that sharp against Man Utd and think he could do some miles in his legs to get him more up to match speed. Also hopefully some of the youth players get a good run out ecspecially keen on seeing Kane play.

Will also be interesting to see what 'fringe' players are used. Would give a good indication of who Harry really wants out the door. Does anyone have a list of who is injured?

Hope Kane has a good game and feels confident. Average loan reports from Orient but plays with loads of confidence for the youth side. I think Carroll might do surprisingly well if given long enough.

Townsend is probably the most likely to start. Always wants to attack his full-back which will be entertaining.

If you check out the OS they've update the first team page to include Kane, Nicholson & Thomas Carroll so I guess they are playing.

Lets hope for 4-0 or better. That would be a record defeat for a Scottish club in europe. Not that I have anything against them but I'd love us to be responsible for a record. Also it would be nice to have a bit of a goalfest for the fans that can be bothered to turn up tonight
