13:41 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 2-2 Man United
Nacer Chadli does get the hook for the final few minutes. Gylfi Sigurdsson is on.
13:28 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 2-2 Man United
Kyle Walker hits a free-kick into the wall and here comes Jermain Defoe in a straight swap for Roberto Soldado.
There's a change for United too, as Javier Hernandez is on in place of Danny Welbeck. Neither side want a draw?
13:21 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 2-2 Man United
Aaron Lennon comes off - and the fans do not like that - and Andros Townsend is on. Lennon has given Patrice Evra trouble today.
13:13 GOAL- Tottenham 2-2 Man United - Wayne Rooney (Pen 57 mins)
No messing! Wayne Rooney steps up and hammers the ball right down the middle. Back to all square.
13:12 PENALTY TO UNITED - Tottenham 2-1 Man United
Danny Welbeck goes down under the challenge of Hugo Lloris - and that's a penalty. Mike Dean books Lloris as well.
13:10 GOAL- Tottenham 2-1 Man United - Sandro (54 mins)
You would have got good money on a Kyle Walker/Sandro double today! But the Brazilian has unleashed an absolute screamer here! He carries it forwards from midfield, shrugs off the challenge of Phil Jones and then hammers a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.
He hit that so well that David De Gea did not move. Unstoppable!
HALF-TIME - Tottenham 1-1 Man United
12:31 GOAL- Tottenham 1-1 Man United - Wayne Rooney
This is what happens when you miss chances against Manchester United - they score an equaliser out of nowhere! Kyle Walker makes a horrendous error, flicking Phil Jones' cross back across goal, perfectly into the path of Wayne Rooney who can't believe his luck and slams in from six yards. Dreadful defending.
12:18 GOAL- Tottenham 1-0 Man United - Kyle Walker
I have to be honest, there wasn't a great deal of confidence there as Kyle Walker stepped up to take a free-kick 20 yards out. It's not really a great connection from the right-back, but he skids one under the jumping wall and in, right in the middle of the goal!

Tottenham Hotspur will hope to put a difficult week behind them and get their Premier League campaign back on track against Manchester United on Sunday.

There had already been criticism of Spurs prior to last weekend's trip to Manchester City, primarily because of their attacking struggles and a perceived lack of entertainment at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham were unable to add to their Premier League tally of nine goals for the season at the Etihad Stadium as they went a third straight game without scoring, but the major problem was that their previously strong defence also endured a nightmare afternoon as City triumphed 6-0.

Andre Villas-Boas had to dismiss reports after the match that he was on the verge of being sacked, but he will know the best way to respond would be to beat United and re-establish Spurs as contenders in the title race.

Tottenham have slipped to ninth ahead of the weekend but remain within four points of second spot and Villas-Boas will be keen to give the White Hart Lane faithful reason to cheer after voicing some frustration about the home fans earlier in the season.

A trek to the Arctic Circle to face Norwegian side Tromso in the Europa League was hardly the ideal preparation for Spurs, even though they won 2-0, but United are also returning from a continental journey after crushing Bayer Leverkusen 5-0.

The victory in Germany sealed United's spot in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League and was described by manager David Moyes as their finest performance of the season so far.

The Red Devils are now unbeaten in in 11 matches in all competitions and can focus for now on boosting their chances of defending the Premier League title.

A late equaliser from Kim Bo-kyung left United having to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Cardiff City last Sunday, and they trail leaders Arsenal by seven points.

They will be looking to improve on their sixth-placed standing this weekend and can take confidence from their record against Tottenham, having not lost at White Hart Lane since 2001.

Ryan Giggs featured in that game 12 years ago and may be called upon again on Sunday, two days after celebrating his 40th birthday.

Tottenham

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is a doubt for Sunday's game against Manchester United because of a groin injury.

Midfielder Christian Eriksen (ankle), defender Danny Rose (toe) and striker Harry Kane (back) are all out.

Manager Villas-Boas is expected to recall the likes of Jermain Defoe, Kyle Walker and Paulinho, who were rested for Thursday's win over Tromso.

Man United

Moyes faces a dilemma over how much to rotate his squad after such a stunning victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

He is waiting to see if Robin van Persie will be available following a groin injury, but the performances of Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa in Germany were so good that he will not feel under pressure to rush the Dutchman back.

Marouane Fellaini could slot back into midfield after serving a European suspension against Leverkusen, while Nemanja Vidic may return in defence.

Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas will recall several first-team regulars, having made nine changes for Thursday's win in Tromso.

Forward Emmanuel Adebayor is a doubt because of a groin injury, while Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose and Harry Kane all remain unavailable

Manchester United pair Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic could return after respective groin and head injuries.

Ryan Giggs is likely to be involved two days after turning 40.

Manchester United's demolition job on Bayer Leverkusen was the last thing the Germans needed as they bid to progress to the Champions League last 16 - and it wouldn't have made good viewing for Tottenham Hotspur either.

Spurs' loss at Manchester City was as comprehensive a beating as any since TOWIE's Joey Essex took on The Times cryptic crossword, and the fear of a repeat must be at the back of their minds.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, to be comprehensively thrashed by one Manchester club may be regarded as a misfortune; to be hammered by both in a week might look like carelessness.

Despite Tottenham's 2 -0 win at Tromso on Thursday night it is critical they show massive improvement on Sunday because no result in the Europa League is likely to fully restore confidence after such a shocking performance as the one at City.

A win over United - well that would be another matter. It would also be their first at White Hart Lane since 2001.

Tottenham's lack of goals had not been critical because of their water-tight defence, but it feels like they are at a crossroads just now.

Forget the title, with the competition for the top four places even greater than usual, they must recover their poise at both ends quickly or face being out of the equation.

Manchester United's win at the BayArena was certainly David Moyes' best result at the club and extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in league and cup. But for some carelessness, they could conceivably have won all 11 of those matches.

If Ryan Giggs features at White Hart Lane he will become only the fourth 40-something outfield player in Premier League history, following in the footsteps of former club-mates Teddy Sheringham and Gordon Strachan and Crystal Palace forward Kevin Phillips.

It may just be worth noting that Giggs is currently 47 matches short of 1,000 for United. He couldn't, could he?

Head-to-head

  • Manchester United's only defeat in their last 28 league and cup meetings with Tottenham came at Old Trafford last season (W20, D7, L1).
  • Spurs are winless in this fixture at White Hart Lane since May 2001 (D4, L8), when Willem Korsten scored twice in a 3-1 Premier League victory. United veteran Ryan Giggs started that match.
Tottenham

  • Tottenham's 6-0 defeat by Manchester City last weekend was their heaviest league reverse since a 7-1 loss to Newcastle in December 1996.
  • However, they had kept an unrivalled seven clean sheets this season ahead of the latest round of fixtures.
  • Spurs have failed to score in three successive league matches for the first time since January 2009. They last went four matches without scoring in August-September 2006.
  • Excluding a penalty, they have not scored with any of their last 78 shots in the Premier League according to Opta.
  • Prior to the weekend matches, only the bottom two sides - Sunderland and Crystal Palace - had scored fewer than Tottenham's nine league goals.
  • Andre Villas-Boas' side have yet to earn a point from a losing position this season.
  • Michael Dawson is set to make his 300th English league appearance.
Manchester United

  • The Red Devils are unbeaten in 11 matches in all competitions, taking 14 points from the last available 18 in the league (W4, D2).
  • United's tally of 21 points from 12 games is their worst return since the 2004-05 season, when they finished third.
  • They have conceded at least one goal in each of their last nine Premier League away games, their worst streak since an 11-match run between August 2002 and January 2003.
  • Robin van Persie has scored in each of his last four league appearances and has 19 Premier League goals in 2013.
  • Ryan Giggs celebrated his 40th birthday on Friday. He is the top scorer in Premier League matches between Manchester United and Spurs, with 10 goals.

Going for a 4-1 win, Soldado 2 Lamela 1 Vertonghen 1, with Rooney scoring for Utd. I feel like being an optomistic positive guy today :)

Could indeed be the spark and turning point for us this season. Hoping to see a performance with a lot more urgency and appetite to attack about it though. If we get that we can win for sure. Please not the loads of nothing possession.

I dread 60% possession stats at the end of the game and we've lost 3-0.

Going to be optimistic though and go for a 2-1 win. No idea where the goals are coming from though!

United are not the United of old, albeit still a very strong side - they miss the fear they instilled in the opposition before a ball was even kicked under Ferguson.

Big week for us and AVB. 3 games in 6 days. All winnable games. 3 positive results and we're back in or around the top 4. Negative results and we're in free fall and the pressure will intensify on AVB.

I think he made a big mistake taking so many of our 1st team members to Norway just days before a big league match.

Always hopeful though. Time for AVB to show he can handle the pressure when it's on.

I have taken Soldado out of my fantasy football team. This means he will get a hat trick
