Player reaction - Tottenham 3-2 Southampton
Tottenham double goalscorer Christian Eriksen: "We got a little speech at half-time :angelic: and in the second half we were new guys. We try to play like the manager wanted, we showed it way more in the second half than the first half."
15:20 GOAL - Tottenham 3-2 Southampton - Gylfi Sigurdsson (90 mins)
They've done it! Out of nothing really the Icelander Gylfi Sigurdsson has won it for Spurs! Jose Fonte heads out a deep ball into the box, Christian Eriksen lays it off into Sigurdsson's path, and he leathers it home from 20 yards, hard and low into the corner.
Tim Sherwood's celebration is not far off Mourinho at Old Trafford - airborne, fist pumping down the touchline.
15:08 YELLOW CARD Cork
15:05 YELLOW CARD Bentaleb
14:59 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 2-2 Southampton
A draw would leave these sides in sixth and eighth in the Premier League.
Sit up Roy! Here's another of your World Cup hopefuls, it's Andros Townsend on in place of Aaron Lennon. Townsend needs a good run-in to make it to Brazil you feel.
14:33 GOAL - Tottenham 2-2 Southampton - Christian Eriksen (46 mins)
A goal 44 seconds into the second half! More bad defending as Roberto Soldado shrugs off the challenge of Dejan Lovren - who thinks he is fouled - before putting the ball on a plate for Christian Eriksen, who buries his second of the game. What a start!
Half Time SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 1-2 Southampton
One half-time change by Tim Sherwood as Gylfi Sigurdsson comes on in place of Mousa Dembele. On a weekend of spectacular strikes, he is a man who can hit a ball.
Southampton also make a change, Nathaniel Clyne being binned in favour of Calum Chambers.
14:11 GREAT SAVE! - Tottenham 1-2 Southampton
Brilliant touch! I was critical of Roberto Soldado earlier but he produces a touch of Dimitar Berbatov-style class to lay-off a cross into the path of Christian Eriksen. Perfect weight to reach the Dane, who hurdles two tackles before his shot is closed down by Artur Boruc. Could he have gone down for a penalty? He was very honest.
14:00 GOAL - Tottenham 1-2 Southampton - Christian Eriksen (31 mins)
The curse of the right-back strikes for the third time! This time it's Nathaniel Clyne who drops one, the Southampton man lets a cross go under his studs when it appeared an easy clearance and Christian Eriksen is left with an easy finish at the far post.
They've not been in the game, but Spurs have a lifeline.
13:56 GOAL - Tottenham 0-2 Southampton- Adam Lallana (28 mins)[/b}
Kyle Naughton at it again! Dearie me, another clanger from the right-back as he is left as last man after a corner, he tries to control the ball and can only stab it into the path of Rickie Lambert. He waits for Adam Lallana to overlap him before playing him in, and Lallana's finish is unerring. It's a good job Tim Sherwood is in the stands.
13:48 GOAL - Tottenham 0-1 Southampton - Jay Rodriguez (19 mins)
This boy can finish, he can really finish! Jay Rodriguez puts another case forward to the watching Roy Hodgson with his 15th goal of the season. But it's all about Kyle Naughton, who misreads Artur Boruc's long goal-kick downfield, ducking under it to allow J-Rod a clear run on goal. He looked confident, and made no mistake, sweeping into the corner.

Premier League

Spurs host Southampton at White Hart Lane

Tottenham look to return to form as they host Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Tim Sherwood's side have not won since the start of March and are licking their wounds following defeats to rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, whilst also going out of the Europa League to Benfica.

Spurs did restore some pride in midweek when they almost came from behind to knock-out Benfica at the Estadio da Luz before their young side eventually went out 5-3 on aggregate after a 2-2 draw.

Spurs remain in fifth but have dropped seven points behind fourth place and indeed are now just two points ahead of Everton. Southampton are now just eight points off Spurs and a win in North London on Sunday could take them level on points with Manchester United.

The Saints come into the game in good form following back to back wins over Crystal Palace and Norwich and they will be looking for their first win at White Hart Lane since 2003.

Tottenham

Emmanuel Adebayor, Mousa Dembele and Younes Kaboul could all return for the clash with Southampton.

The trio missed the 2-2 draw at Benfica through injury but are in with a chance of returning on Sunday, when Jan Vertonghen will again be available having been suspended for Thursday's Europa League tie.

Spurs manager Tim Sherwood said he did not expect any further good news on the injury front at White Hart Lane, with Michael Dawson, Vlad Chiriches, Kyle Walker, Erik Lamela, Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Hugo Lloris all having missed the trip to Portugal.

Southampton

Southampton boss is Mauricio Pochettino is sweating over the fitness of a host of players ahead of the clash on Sunday.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Gaston Ramirez, who both started their win over Norwich, are fresh doubts but could both start at White Hart Lane.

Guly do Prado is also a new concern, whilst Victor Wanyama and Jack Cork look likely to remain sidelined.

Tottenham could have Emmanuel Adebayor, Mousa Dembele and Younes Kaboul all back after they missed Thursday's Europa League match with Benfica.

Jan Vertonghen also returns after he was suspended for the trip to Portugal.

Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin is doubtful due to a muscle problem around his pelvis.

Guly Do Prado and Kelvin Davis face fitness tests, but midfielders Jack Cork and Victor Wanyama are definitely out.

Tottenham's last chance of silverware this season came to a brave end on Thursday night when they bowed out of the Europa League to Benfica despite a gutsy display that was full of character.

It was just the sort of performance Tim Sherwood needed from his team, that was shorn of a host of players, after a damaging recent run of results that culminated in last Sunday's defeat in the north London derby by Arsenal.

Fourth place and Champions League football seems out of their grasp now, but they must finish the season strongly to secure their participation in the Europa League for next season.

It's been a very challenging time for Sherwood and he has cut an exasperated figure in recent weeks, battling not only poor performances on the pitch, but also huge speculation that Dutch national coach Louis van Gaal is set to take over next season.

Memories of the 3-2 win over Southampton in December, in what was Sherwood's first league game in charge, seem like a distant memory. It's interesting to note that he picked two strikers in that game, and continued to do so throughout the successful early days of his tenure, but has since abandoned that idea and results have not gone their way.

Southampton will go to White Hart Lane with no fear. Comfortably safe from relegation, there is no reason why they can't go to Tottenham and play with the attacking vigour that has been so impressive this season.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino must be absolutely delighted that four of his players are trying to prove they are worthy of a World Cup spot with England. Each week one of them seems to excel - be it either Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez or Luke Shaw. Last weekend Rodriguez was the star, but his striking rival, Lambert, then scored just 66 seconds after coming on.

It's a tough game to call, but like the game at St Mary's between these sides, it could be another match full of goals.

Struggling to muster any interest in the rest of the season. Now I know how Villa fans feel when they're not fighting relegation.

Reminds me of the mid 90s when the most exciting part of the season was when the new shirt came out and when the fantasy football papers were issued.

Now we have very little to play for I hope he rotates our three strikers. Wouldn't mind seeing Kane get a few minutes in the league here and there.

Sandro and Bentaleb sitting behind Eriksen, Ade and Chadli with Soldado up top please.

Gonna get blasted for this but at least I'm honest enough to say it.... I hope we lose this one and the majority of the remaining games. 7th place is 2nd prize after 4th place. Avoid Europa league at all costs.

There I said it and will do in every match thread until the end of the season (apart from next weekend as I hate Liverpool more than any other team) this season can do one. Neg rep away

Weird thought, but was that 4-2 defeat against Burnley the season we qualified for the CL the last 'dead rubber' we had in the PL?

Not a lot to play for. I thought maybe we should just settle on 6/7th but of course winning is a habit and maybe we can get on a late run that will give us some confidence for next season(?) Win seven, draw one and we might make top four...woolwich finished with 26points from 30 to pip us last season so it's possible.

Whatever happens there are a lot of players in our squad who are playing fro WC places so surely they will want to give everything! Some wins and some pride back would be a good way to end a disappointing season

If Adebayor is fit, start Adebayor. If not, give Harry Kane a chance, he deserves it after his performance against Benfica.

It's almost sickening to think that we're just 2 wins prior to this date away from maybe having a worthwhile remainder of the season. There's been an improvement in the last 2 games IMO, even without a win but we're too far behind, and that's with the fact that we still have Liverpool away to play.

This season has been weird, for me it started off by dreading our home games under AVB and now there's a sort of empty feeling in regards to our match days. I hope next season we can revive the days where we expect a win at WHL and expect to give the big teams a tough game, at least at home.

Can't believe we're only 1 point off than we were at this stage last season though, that's interesting.

All about experimentation for the duration of this season now.

I'm not holding out much hope in terms of cohesive, pleasing-on-the-eye football but I do want certain players given prominent roles such as Eriksen and Chadli and stop persisting with Lennon who's been nothing but a consistent disappointment - again!

All for bringing some of our development squad on in matches too for much needed experience and hopefully we'll see even more of them next year and pushing established players for positions.

Why don't you want to play European football? Is it because you think we can qualify for the Champions League, and improve our revenue?

There seems to be an attitude among some fans that we're too big for the Europa League, when we're really not.

Fuck it I hope the team is sent out with the message to enjoy the football, nice quick passing and play with a smile on their faces.

Might lead to getting a decent footballing performance out of them.

Plus next years Europa League winners get a CL place.

I love us being in Europe and once we get to the later stages you can play teams like Benfica, Juventus and who ever else.

Some fans need a slap and wake up to reality, I was so happy when we got into Europe again for the first time, I still watch every match I can and I want us to win every match we can.

To many of our fans are spoiled little brats.

For a number of reasons really with the point you've made being one of them. I don't think we're too big for the Europa at all, I just don't want to play in it. I think we stand a much better chance of finishing in the top 4 next season if we don't have to travel to the arse end of nowhere every other Thursday night.

Purely for selfish reasons I don't want to play in the Europa next season as I want to play our games on a Saturday on a consistent basis next season as Sunday games are difficult for me to get to and also enjoy as much when I have to be in work for 7am the next day.

I don't have to justify my reasons for not wanting to play in the Europa to anyone but all I can say is thinking were too big for the Europa is NOT one of them.
