Tottenham boss Antonio Conte will not return to Inter Milan to sign Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan de Vrij in January. That is because Conte, along with director of football Fabio Paratici and chairman Daniel Levy, have decided to go with a more youthful approach in the transfer market.

Raiola is his agent, I think we want to go young to save on wages, he would cost a lot in transfer, wages and agent fees money.
True. The difference with buying someone like De Ligt though is there is every chance we can sell him in the future and recoup some of our money or maybe make a profit.

If we buy a 29 year old for a high fee then any sell-on is likely to be for considerably less or free.

I'd argue we need a mix. I'm happy to generally sign younger players but to be successful we need 1 or 2 experienced players - who know how to win - alongside them.
We have plenty of youth in the squad already, but not so much in terms of older winners.

I actually thought brozovic was older than that. I think it's fine to have signings like this if conte wants him. The midfield clearly needs something.

This is a shame, Brozovic would make our midfield a whole lot better. Plus he still has plenty of years ahead of him.

Could do with one experienced and very solid centre-back, I think players like Romero, Emerson, Reguilon etc. would also really benefit from having someone like De Vrij in the team. Even if he has got only 3/4 good years left in him.

I don't see a problem with signing one or two 'older' players who would instantly improve the team (and the players around them).

Surprised if this is true. We need some experienced 'old hands' who know how to get over the finish line as well as young potential. Brozovic and DeVrij would fit nicely, and you can afford high wages if there's little or no transfer fee. As for 'sell on' value, we should be in a situation now where that isn't such a priority but winning stuff is.

I can't say I know much about Brozovic and De Vrij, but we definitely need some good, experienced characters in the squad.

Under Arnesen and Jol we started buying young but at the same time bought Naybet and Davids. A few more signings like that could be very welcome.

We need players who actually know what to do in the pitch, whatever age. Who can execute the fundamentals consistently to a high standard. Right now we have very few such players.

As it becomes increasingly commonplace for players to run down their contracts, I wonder whether the case for buying younger talent with the prospect of retaining value or even making a profit is now a bit questionable.

Sounds like another manager is about to get Levy’ed. Wants de Vrij and Brozovic. Gets another Joe Rodon and Jack Clarke.

Are we ever going to learn?

Conte needs to be backed, it’s as simple as that.

Based on the article of this thread, it states this is Conte's decision. We are going to get linked with a lot of players. Most will be nonsense but there will be so many links that it's easy to create a narrative out of it.

Lloris being pretty much the only exception.
