A year ago would we not have been chasing Cardiff's Aaron Ramsey???

What happened to the policy to go for the best young British talent ??

Well for a start we really can't buy every young player out there even though it does seem that way sometimes.
I don't know if we even made a bid - Perhaps young Gunter had a chat with him, found out he was a gooner and told our management not too bother!
Who knows?
However I am sure of one thing - Aaron Ramsay will be a star, lets hope young Bostock is one too!

It seems we are switching our focus on players like Capel, Veloso, Quaresma, Adler, ummmm oh yeah Modric and Dos Santos.

Yep i'm pretty happy with how our transfers are going thus far.

i think there was a game 2 years ago where we had 11 English players in the 16 + Robbie Keane and another Brit.

Next year, we could play games with only 2 English players and thats hoping Woody and Ledley are fit.

It would be slightly ironic if Blatter's 6 plus 5 rule ever sees the light of day

It was good to see us over the past few years buy home grown talent but it all depends on weather or not we want to progress, with the players we've signed to date and those we are apparently chasing we are more likely to be heading up the table instead of just sitting somewhere in the middle.

I wanna see the club really push the top 4 and I don't think we will if we just stay on the path of signing young up and coming home talent unfortunately, also if we want to become a club with a big market across the world we gotta start getting those big global name players, I certainly think Modric will be one of those.

Bostock ??

Exactly what I was thinking :)

I think Ramsey will end up regretting his decision. He could not have chosed a club with a worse record for bringing young talent through. No doubt in a few years he will be thinking "I should have gone to Spurs"

To be honest I think he should have gone to Man U, Fergie would have made him a star like Giggs, Wenger just wants him to fiddle with his Welsh length now Theo's getting older it's starting to get wrinkles.

It won't, which is just as well: Bale, Gunter and Ramsey would all be ruled out.

As to why we didn't pursue Ramsey, well, we were rumoured to be interested, but in the end there are only so many teenage midfield superstars we can accommodate. I've never knowingly seen him play (did he figure in our games against Cardiff last season?), and I've certainly never seen Bostock. Would they duplicate one another?

Not necessarily, they were saying the same things about Theo Walnut and we're still waiting for him to set the world alight. No doubt Ramsey is a good player but sitting in the scum reserves aint gonna be developing him.

I only saw Ramsey in the cup final. He looked 'lively' but I think for 5 mill we'd be wondering where/when he would get his chance.

i thought we were being linked with him, and probably were showing an intrest, the problem is our Youth and Reserve team seems to be filling up too much with all these players who might make it now, what we really need to be doing is putting the quality into our first team, so when they do start coming through they have a good team (challaging up the to) to get into and make there mark

I think Bostock, and gunter signings alone during the Ramos era (not that he makes executive decisions on signings anyway) prove that we will go after Young British talent. But one thing we seem to be doing recently is going after really young talent to go in the academy. Previously we went for the likes of Dawson, Jenas, Robbo, Bale, and Routledge who were already starting to make a name for themselves and going straight into our first team squad.

I see our policy as changing slightly, as we now have a lot of good squad players in the first team but we need to attain more world class players that already have the talent, like Modric for example. Rather than just constantly signing players that could be the next best thing, Zokora, Boateng, and a list of many others spring to mind.

Likewise i believe that whoever we sign as a DM, GK and CB will all have a proven track record rather than just a load of hype about possibly being the next best thing in a few years, but are ready to do a job this season

Presumably that should read young British talent? Or it was irony that I've failed to pick up?

Just asking the question guys....

Not being critical of our recent buys, and still have full confidence in the decision makers @ Spurs.

Recently only Bent, and maybe Kaboul still yet to prove thier worth. And as long as they quickly adapt to Prem' football, Modric & Gio' will prove great buisness.

Just gauging opinion ....

I think that Walcott will be a very decent player this season and will get his chance in the first team.
When they bought him,he was still a bit of a baby - Ramsay is'nt,he is stronger, more developed and he will play in the Carling Cup games this season.
