The first five stories in Saturday's BBC Transfer Gossip are:-
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has persuaded chairman Daniel Levy to part with £15m for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing. (Daily Mail)
However, the north London club are also monitoring Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen, Bordeaux's Denilson and Seville's Diego Capel should England international Downing turn down a move to White Hart Lane. (The Times)
Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt is also on Tottenham's shopping list for about £5m. (Daily Mirror)
But Redknapp's quest for Craig Bellamy could be over if cash-rich Manchester City enter the race for the West Ham striker's signature. (Daily Mail)
Spurs are also eyeing Manchester United number two goalkeeper Ben Foster, who could be persuaded to move from Old Trafford if Redknapp offers £20,000 a week in wages. (The Sun)
1Is it just me who now loathes the transfer windows and every Tom, Dick and Carlos being linked with Spurs?
Most of the above rumours are just regurgitated.
I think the last time I got really excited was when Davids was linked to us but since then I've gradually become totally disenchanted with transfer rumours.
Every time I see the name Downing, my heart sinks. And then there's all the foreign players who are interested in joining us purely for the chance to play for the famous Tottenham (when they lose their place in the team or are about to renegotiate their contracts).
I still stay up past midnight on the last day of each window but it's mainly to post news of the last minute transfers to/from Spurs (nowadays we nearly always leave it to the last minute - brinkmanship taken to extremes) on the front page and it's a relief for me to know that the window has closed until the next time.
And here's today's major scoop
Cynical, moi?
Damn right!
