To Date I have not seen heard a valid reasons why UK players cost more….and I do mean Valid, not some spurious justification…All seems so, industry created to me. And I do believe it is harming our younger players and our national team.
The Bostock / Jordon, cases reignited my thoughts…We did get him blood cheaply, (the tribunal got it wrong IMO) But Jordon, IMO, asked to much, and therefore created the potential for his personal disaster, so no sorrow for him from me.
But it doesn’t take away that UK players consistently seem over priced..(Bent / Bentley anyone)
With Spurs Fan been the most knowledgeable :stupid::rofl::shrugas they choose Spurs) I am sure we can redefine the transfer system for UK origin players….here’s my ideas.
1. All players are contracted to “there” club until they are 19yrs old.
After that a new “adult” contract is signed. The wages are as the club and player agree.
2. A fixed transfer fee of…say 2mill is the price for, (to clubs only in the UK, anywhere else, nothings fixed) If the player is transferred / sold to another UK premier team prior to his 19th Birthday. And the said player must play a minimum 20% of the games played by the 1st teams. (Sub included but must get on the pitch and play) competitive matches (not friendly, exhibition, or pre-season)
3. If on the players reaching 19yrs old either party no longer wish to “be together” a maximum fee of..Say 4 million is set, to any UK clubs only. If a figure cannot be agreed, then its time for the good old tribunal.
4. All players 19-21 yrs old that are signed by a prem club (not from within there own youth set up) must play a minimum 20% of the games played by the 1st teams. (Sub included but must get on the pitch and play) competitive matches (not friendly, exhibition, or pre-season) Players contract end at 21, new contract time. IF either party no longer wish to “be together” a maximum fee of..Say 5 million is set, again to UK clubs only. If a figure cannot be agreed, then its time for the good old tribunal
5. Players 21+ their contract, (length wages etc) as agreed between club and player.
If the player wishes to transfer. Or the club wishes to sell the player, a maximum transfer fee applies if it is to a club in the UK. And is age related
e.g.
21-25 max 10 million
25-28 max 15 million
28-31 max 10 million
31+ max 5 million
Pitfalls
Club / player claims injuries made it impossible for the player to play 20%..If an official club makes this complaint, an independent enquiry is held…I think making a hefty penalty for breaking this rule should stop most of the potential “fake” injury claims..Something like 10 point deduction. Player cancellation of contract etc.
The “big” “rich” clubs buying all the UK talent…well there is only so many they could buy..and no system is perfect…Just looking at the prem now, how many under 21 are there, playing reasonable regular prem football..against those older than 21.
The figures, age, money, % playing time mentioned are just a general idea, and obviously would need to be looked at each year, to fit into the “current” market place.
The basic idea is to make UK origin players cheaper to buy for UK based clubs. Without affecting the import of good/ star imported players..
SO that’s my idea/s what’s yours on this or your own?
