Jeez you guys, it's not like Birch is replacing Matt Collecott. If/when he's replaced with a battle hardened M&A specialist from Rothschilds/Allen & Overy/PWC then you should raise an eyebrow

You can expect spurs to be involved in all sorts of large corporate deals. It’s not unusual for a company with their financial footprint, and it’s not unusual to have people with his background on the board.

It’s always been a financial asset and a sale has always been possible, but so have all sorts of other developments, some of which like the stadium and the financing have had a major effect on the business but will have a bigger part to play as things progress. Since it’s a financial asset, Levy will do all he can to make it work as hard as possible and now the infrastructure’s finally in place, he’s recruited a top financial man to help at the highest level.

It seems like a very natural and sensible appointment to me.

We’ve bought 2 guys in 3 months into the boardroom that seem to specialize in sales. Just another wishful thinking conspiracy theory or putting 2 and 2 together?
It's not out of the question but the amount of parties that could afford to buy the club without leveraging the debt against the club has to be very small.

Agree totally, my point is that one should only raise an eyebrow regarding a potential sale when a CFO or Financial Director (Collecott's role) is hired or replaced.

Balancing the books can be accomplished by any COO of even an average pedigree. I really don't think this chap has been hired to do something that perfunctory and mundane. His background clearly indicates that, as Liam Neeson would say, he has a certain set of skills. The type of skills and experience needed when you're considering profound operational changes, investments, buyouts, mergers, sales, etc.

I could be completely wrong. But if we are simply making suppositions based on prior jobs, then it seems to hint at some big changes over the next 18 months or longer.

Trevor Birch is a family friend. He worked for my late Father in Law at E&Y in Liverpool and was very close to him. He is very talented, decent and professional. A great addition and I agree, interesting to see why he has been recruited.

#thfc Steve Hitchen will effectively assume the duties of a DoF while Trevor Birch has joined to oversee the day to day running of the training ground in Spurs’ restructure.

Seems odd. Surely running a training ground isn't hard?

The appointment of birch with his financial background must mean that he is heading up the overall finances from transfers to wages and all that it encompasses.

Pretty sure that DanKP has merely got himself in a bit of a muddle about this.
How so? Do you mean that you’d expect Birch and Hitchin to be assuming DoF and training ground roles respectively rather than the other way around?

No, I mean that I’m fairly confident that Levy hasn’t gone to the trouble of hiring someone with Trevor Birch’s qualifications just to “oversee the day to day running of the training ground”. I’m also fairly confident that Trevor Birch didn’t quit his role as Swansea chairman just to do the job that DanKP describes.
