The delays in people getting into the Paxton at least was due to a fire alarm... http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/fc-twente-match-admission-290910.html

Note that this is just the club 'advising' supporters of the reason we couldn't get in the ground for kick off - there's no apology in there, despite hundreds of fans not being able to get in the ground for kick off through no fault of their own, and the kick off not being delayed.

It was bloody horrible outside - as was said there were no announcements and people were beginning to push etc. and it's always incredibly dark on that street as well. Still, rather that than Stratford I suppose...

I blame Jim The Yid!

Yup it could have even been him actually. I had a face full of froth and couldn't see so it could have been Nick Berry from Heartbeat for all i knew at the time.

I managed to get to Seven Sisters last night at about 6.30 so I could get to the pub for a leisurely pint or two before the game, but ended up not getting there much before 7.10 because of what I perceived to be some fairly bizarre policing. Was just wondering what everyone else thought.

Coming off the tube at Seven Sisters the police were herding all of the Twente fans into a big square surrounded by plod and when they felt they had them all they then marched them off down the middle of the High Road. For me this was particularly annoying as I just missed the bus before they set off meaning the bus I got on had to sit behind them. I eventually got off and walked.

This begs a couple of questions...

1) Are Twente's fans a bit notorious for resorting to fisticuffs? The marching of them down the road and the surprisingly high police presence seemed massively over the top. I travelled to and from the game on the tube with a load of them and although they were a bit pissed they certainly weren't causing any trouble. Not really sure why they were singled out for specialist treatment.

2) Surely there's a better way of getting them to the ground than marching them down the road and effectively closing off all public transport links to the ground (not to mention the traffic problems it must have caused for everyone else). There must be a back route that can get them close before going on the main road, or even just walk them down the pavement (and funnel everyone else to the other side of the road).

The whole thing just seemed a bit daft and it worries me that we are supposedly going to be adding to our capacity which would mean more away fans in the future.

Thoughts?

The Dutch fans were a 'mare. While they were being escorted to the ground, several of them were trying to break out and go for anyone in colours. They really had a bit of trouble containing them and they said it was the toughest job since Cardiff. If there was no escorting, there would've been lots and lots of scuffles.

Good as gold inside the ground, ****s outside. Unfortunately, the excessive policing was necessary.

Would anyone have really noticed a bit more mess and a few more wrecked shops in the High Road.

It's a dump already.

.
Maybe we should pre-advise home fans where not to be at what time and slip our friends in blue a few bob to divert the hoolies around the area a bit, then they can start our new stadium for us, smashing up a few empty buildings etc - save on demolition costs - then, once the job's almost done, arrest a couple of hundred of them and the judge can be lubed to give them sentences of community service... yep, you guessed it, clearing the mess they made up into skips!

Man, i should be on a planning commitee or something.
