Why didn't a full back play at right back as opposed to a central midfielder? We had Gunter on the bench and played Zokora out of position.

And also, is Jenas captain-material? Is he the best leader in the team without King? Is he a leader at all? What about Woodgate?

Zokora was one of our best players yesterday. Why don't you focus on the negatives before picking apart the positives.

Woodgate hardly led by example yesterday. Lay off Zokora, he's been playing RB in pre season and looked comfortable, Gunter has just turned 19 years old, I agree with JR's decision not to throw him in at the deep end. Downing is one of the most consistent left sided players in the league.

I would have liked Gunter to play RB but in pre-season he has been a little indifferent. He still would have got exposed as our full backs did because none of the 3 AMs (or whatever they were) got back to help out, but I think he might have made the defence a bit tighter.

We cant tell what the players are like behind closed doors and the changing room. Maybe you get a bit more making Jenas vice captain than you would making Woody VC. I mean, would making Woody captain improve his game - no, it would probably be the same and he would still be leading and marshalling the defence. The midfield needs leadership, so maybe thats why Jenas was picked

I guess the reason you have to ask these questions is because you are not the manager and obviously do not know the answers yourself.

As others have stated on several threads, a full back did not play RB yesterday because Zakora did a good job there pre season and did pretty well yesterday. Ramos made the right decision re. RB, IMO.

Personally, I would be a lot more concerned about Dawson and maybe Gunter could have replaced him part way through. To be honest, I don't believe any player played awfully yesterday. Yes there were individual mistaked and, yes, Ramos made some questionable decision but he is the boss and we should trust him.

Early days in the Ramos era but I am convinced he will get the job done:)

Two questions:

1) why is it after a defeat on here it really is :bang::bang::bang:?

2) where are all the :bang::bang::bang: thread starters after we win, draw and during the week?

Answers

1. If we have ambitions for top 4 place, we need nothing less than 3 points from Boro away.

2. Most are watching CBBC and the remainder are sat in the armchairs in far flung places I can't prenounce

Please lets not start on Zokora. By the way, he handled Downing very well.

We must address CB because if Kings not playing were f-ed.

i dont think people on here are slating zokora as such, merely asking why we had no 'proper' right back playing instead. Obviosuly hutton is injured. Zokora did handle downing well but did turn his back on crosses etc. But so did a few other players. It think it is important not to single our one player. Thats easy to do. At the end of the day thier second goal was fluke. Thier first one was through poor defending.

I think we are being radical to be doing threads like this after only the first game of the season! I bet after the Sunderland game we would have forgotten all about this game (assuming we win, which we will). If zokora plays at RB so be it, but i think there needs to be an overall communication boost at the back, woodgate should take charge of them and sort their positioning or mention any mistakes that stand out. Each part of the field should do their bit. Its a team not one player.

Yeah, as he said, I'm not attacking Zokora, I'm just wandering why we play a defensive midfielder at right back and start with a right back on the bench. It just seemed odd.

Still, Zokora did defend like an out-of-place midfielder for the goal.

1) I think people need to get the fixed positions idea out of their head. It's been noted that Modric has played a deep role in midfield, attacking left side of midfield and centrally just behind the striker for club and country.

Zokora's attributes helps him play comfortably at right back and last season he had some decent games at centre back, left back and centre midfield. They are professional footballers and they are capable of playing in more than one position if this benefits the team. I'd rather a seasoned international like Zokora playing right to back to a kid with no Prem experience if Juande thinks this is the best move for the team.

2) Jenas may not be captain material, but then many thought the same of Beckham and he did a good job for England imo. King and Woodgate would be my first choices for captain but nowadays the role of captain seems to be losing its meaning anyway so I'm not too worried about who is given the job.
