Two Thirds of Football Fans Considering Switch to Rugby

Anybody see this on the BBC gossip column today?

An incredible two-thirds of football fans questioned in a survey believe that following the sport is a complete waste of money and are considering switching to rugby instead. Eight out of 10 fans feel players' wages are "offensive", while 67% are bored of the 'big four' clubs dominating the Premier League.

I'd never stop following football, obviously. I do feel players wages are offensive though and would be in support of a wage cap. In regards to the big four, I dont think it will be long before it's a big two. I can see Chelsea losing it once Roman runs off and takes his Billions with him. Liverpool dont deserve to be up there anyway, Gerrard and Torres are the only reason they are. I also think Ar5ena1 and United will struggle to maintain their stature when their respective managers leave, it all depends who replaces them obviously.

Discuss...............................

I just feel football is so saturated. i have a season ticket and love going but i prefered it in the 80's when it was an actual game. too much money in the game.
If prices keep going up (which they will) then very soon i wont be going anymore (as a season ticket holder).

People talk, but it won't happen.

I've started to follow club Rugby a lot more recently. I've always claimed to be a 'supporter' of Northampton, but never in the way I 'support' Spurs. I'd like that to change.

I already go to rugby more than I do football, but that isn't saying much because I can't afford to go to the Lane as often as I'd like.

It's still pretty expensive to be honest - every club, football or rugby, seems to take advantage of the British affection for standing outside in the cold and wet, shouting at sweaty blokes.

The difference with rugby is you don't feel that most of the people playing are complete cocks. And when it comes to the footy, I think most of us realise our club doesn't give 2 shits about us and would be quite happy to replace us with 10 people from Asia who have no idea what a Tottingspur is, but like that Korean fella who occassionally plays for them.

Sport watching doesn't have to be exclusive. I watch rugby (loads of it on TV in Wales), cricket and tennis as well as athletics meets.

Football just needs to be taken into hand and cleaned up and the petulant, cheating players properly punished. A lesson in good manners wouldn't go amiss.

Of course, there are bad boys a-plenty in rugby too so the same applies.

Are you a Bath fan? Do you go very often?
My Dad is a ST holder at the rec, so I go maybe four or five times a season.
The problem is that you just don't get the same sort of atmosphere as at a football match. Maybe its just that differences in numbers, I dont know. Even the Bath vs Gloucester game didnt have the best atmosphere despite being a top of the table clash.
I'm warming to it the more and more I go though.

The old saying was, "Football is a gentlemen's game played by ruffians and rugby is a ruffian's game played by gentlemen."

However, that doesn't really apply as much now. The gap has closed.

Still applies, most football players are uneducated chav scum, whereas most Rugby players have degrees.

Even in ice hockey these days, there are too many cheap fouls that intend to take the opponents out of a game. Indeed there's been a few very serious and life-threatening injuries in the past couple of seasons. In ice hockey, it used to be fair face to face fighting, but the cheats are destroying the game as well.

Football is closer to imploding than many think, if any sport gets too predictable in who wins the silverware, eventually supporters will get bored, if stadiums start to empty and some in the prem are already showing large sections of empty seats the corporates will be less interested and the bubble may burst.

Like fordy I've been a season ticket holder for a fair while and I enjoyed the 80's much more, yes the attendances were lower but it was proper hardcore support and the clubs were much more even and small and mid range clubs won trophies which is what a sport is all about.
