I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I will most definitely be very angry if we get knocked out of this competition. Is it as big as the CL? No, so what. It is European football, we get a little extra money and it should be Spurs kicking ass all over Europe and getting that - work fucking hard for it, if you want be successful attitude.

Every competition that Spurs play in should be taken seriously, it's our club and I never want to see us knocked out of anything. I was mighty pissed that we got knocked out of the league cup in the first round we played in :bang:

It is also great experience in regards to dealing with so many games in a season. What is going to happen if we get into the CL next season? not take the CL seriously because it may interfere with the league or not take the league seriously, because it will interfere with the CL? Bollocks, we are going to go for it fucking all, and the players need to learn that to be able to do that, they are going to have to play a lot of games and playing in the EUFA Cup is a great chance to do that.

You don't win fuck all taking the easy option out.

I don't want us to go out the EUFA Cup, I want us to win the fucking thing and win it in style.

COYS!!

What a pathetic rant. The competition is 18 games in a season to win it. Thats another 50% of Premier League games. If you want to win the UEFA (Yes UEFA) trophy then you will sacrifice the chance to play Champions League football. You have to rotate in this competition and with the injuries we have had (Huddlestone, Gallas, Pienaar, Dawson) you have to play the kids. Last night we mixed it up a little but the guys coming back from injury looked shocking for the first 20 mins. They aren't match fit.
I would much prefer us winning 9 and drawing 1 of our last 10 league games.
I didn't bother going to any of these Europa League games. Pointless competition with no benefit of Champs League football for winning it. Now if they offered a Champions League place and didn't include losers from the Champs league then you should go for it. But as it stands its just a waste of time.
Also playing Thursday and then Sunday is too difficult especially if you are travelling to Greece and Russia.

One negative is that we didn't get a ton of coefficient points this year and would be in pot 3 again next year in the Champions League is we qualify. If we we're to draw someone like Bayern and AC Milan it would be something we might regret.

I've never really understood why playing Thursday/Sunday is more difficult than Wednesday/Saturday - or has the calender changed?

IIRC Greek & Russian team qualified for the CL as well

We were over-confident in this competition and paid the price

Just cannot understand why people wanted us to fail in this competition.
As stated we need to develop the mentality to play football twice a week.

Exactly, it is non-argument for me, three days's is three day's what ever way you look at it.

I don't think we was over-confident, I think Harry made his feelings about the competition quite clear at the end of last season.

More angry than when we were going to get 3 points from 8 games?

Zing!

Sorry GL but it seems like you almost want to moan about things, and wallow in anger. Lighten up! We've dropped fewer points than United this season! It's going fucking brilliantly.

The only benefit calendar wise of the CL is Tuesday-Saturday, but then you'd be going Saturday-Tuesday in the run up to it...

How are we going to keep fringe players match fit, interested and motivated without UEFA Cup games to rotate players? Given how Harry's stuck with the same team in the league bar injuries so far this season, how are we going to cope when we have to call on the likes of Huddlestone, Kranjcar, Pienaar, Pavlyuchenko when injuries and suspensions start to pile up towards the end of the season? You can see what happens when you bring a few rusty players into the team...

The competition is 18 games in a season to win it.

Unless you start in the group stages (like we did) then it's 15 games a season, which is the same number of games it would take us to get from the Champions League playoffs (if we finish 4th in the league) to the final.

Also playing Thursday and then Sunday is too difficult especially if you are travelling to Greece and Russia.

A four hour flight to Russia in first class, to play a football game and then another four hour flight back (again in first class) is hardly the equivalent of Captain Scott's trip to the South Pole.

If the squad can't cope with a three day gap between games in the Europa League then how are they going to cope with the three day gap in the Champions League.

Now if they offered a Champions League place and didn't include losers from the Champs league then you should go for it. But as it stands its just a waste of time.

Personally I believe allowing the 3rd placed teams from the CL group stages into the EL devalues the competition but some decent sides such as Valencia, Porto and Lyon look like they are going to drop down into the EL. Our players need the experience of playing European competition as it's completely different to what they face in the league and I'd imagine our fringe & youth players would develop a lot more if they got a run out against Porto, Lyon, etc., than sitting on the bench, getting the occasion game against a side like Blackburn or a run out against some lower league team in the FA Cup.

Green Lily, could you please make a similar thread about the next run of games? I don't think there's ever been a greater reverse jinx in the history of the game than your previous one, you must be over the moon to have been so wrong! :)

I agree we should be looking to win everything but the team we put out on Wednesday should have won fairly easily, I still think we'll go through if we play the first team against Shamrock. PAOK have enough about them to beat Rubin at home by a few goals from what i've seen.

They could improve the tournament overnight if they awarded a Champions League spot to the winner and got rid of the drop down teams. That would make way too much sense though.

Hearing players give out about additional fixtures pisses me off, let's face it, they're paid enough, but they are the ones doing the training, traveling and playing. What I really can't understand is fans complaining about additional fixtures. It's your money that pays the players and manager, the resources are there to compete on both fronts more than capably, your money paid for that.
Any fan who feels pissed off about this is justified in his/her opinion. Any fan who is happy about the players and club throwing a half arsed effort at competing at the fans expense is not seeing the bigger picture. Your money invested in the club pays for the first class flights to Greece and Russia! Your money pays for everything. For the players and management to treat this whole experience as a joke at your expense should be enough to make you give a shit. In not taking the competition seriously is them telling you they don't take you seriously. End of rant!

Agree Caco, I love watching us play 2 games a week. Even the Europa playing our kids is great as it gives us an opportunity to see what they are capable of.

Reality check....

We want the UEFA games to blood our youngsters and give game time to our fringe players. Well guess what - they are the exact guys who didn't get enough points to get out of the group stage.

Stop whining.
