Well the over-rated players thread seems to keep on going so might as well ask about the under-rated players. In the over-rated players I was talking more about players who are world class but when you've seen them haven't impressed so much. I think there are many more under-rated players in the world than over-rated.
Dirk Kuyt - excellent in his first season for Liverpool. Seemed to struggle to find goals in his second season but reports of personal problems could be more of a factor for poor performances rather than lack of ability. Playing for a top four club and not being at the level of Henry, Drogba or Torres often gets very good players branded as useless. I'd have loved for us to arrange a swap deal for Kuyt in the Robbie Keane deal.
Frank Lampard - 116 goals in 377 games for Chelsea. Jose Mourinho was given an open cheque book to buy the title. He didn't bother trying to replace Fat Frank or JT. They've been the driving force behind 2 premiership titles and 3 runners up, 2 FA Cups and 1 runners up and Champions League runners up medal. At best you can criticise him for being the wrong partner for Gerrard and not as good as Gerrard. With Gerrard scoring 100 goals in 450 Liverpool games (wikipedia stats) and not single handedly dragging Liverpool to putting in any title challenges (like he is credited with single handedly winning the Champions League) I do wonder if Lampard is a worse player than Stevie G anyway.
Nigel Reo-Coker - an Aston Villa fan I know talks about him as a driving force behind their improvements. Very good defensive midfielder and good passer too.
Titus Bramble - yes I am ready for the ridicule. He was named as a defender with England potential when at Ipswich. His move to Newcastle proved a disaster. Hugely error prone he was written off as the worlds worst defender. He seems to have learnt from his mistakes and is doing well for Wigan. Steve Bruce knows a decent defender when he sees one. No I wouldn't want at Spurs but he is better than people give him credit for.
I have decided not to name any current or former Spurs players as I think they have all been discussed to death on Spurs chat.
