Well the over-rated players thread seems to keep on going so might as well ask about the under-rated players. In the over-rated players I was talking more about players who are world class but when you've seen them haven't impressed so much. I think there are many more under-rated players in the world than over-rated.

Dirk Kuyt - excellent in his first season for Liverpool. Seemed to struggle to find goals in his second season but reports of personal problems could be more of a factor for poor performances rather than lack of ability. Playing for a top four club and not being at the level of Henry, Drogba or Torres often gets very good players branded as useless. I'd have loved for us to arrange a swap deal for Kuyt in the Robbie Keane deal.

Frank Lampard - 116 goals in 377 games for Chelsea. Jose Mourinho was given an open cheque book to buy the title. He didn't bother trying to replace Fat Frank or JT. They've been the driving force behind 2 premiership titles and 3 runners up, 2 FA Cups and 1 runners up and Champions League runners up medal. At best you can criticise him for being the wrong partner for Gerrard and not as good as Gerrard. With Gerrard scoring 100 goals in 450 Liverpool games (wikipedia stats) and not single handedly dragging Liverpool to putting in any title challenges (like he is credited with single handedly winning the Champions League) I do wonder if Lampard is a worse player than Stevie G anyway.

Nigel Reo-Coker - an Aston Villa fan I know talks about him as a driving force behind their improvements. Very good defensive midfielder and good passer too.

Titus Bramble - yes I am ready for the ridicule. He was named as a defender with England potential when at Ipswich. His move to Newcastle proved a disaster. Hugely error prone he was written off as the worlds worst defender. He seems to have learnt from his mistakes and is doing well for Wigan. Steve Bruce knows a decent defender when he sees one. No I wouldn't want at Spurs but he is better than people give him credit for.

I have decided not to name any current or former Spurs players as I think they have all been discussed to death on Spurs chat.

Juliannio Belleti - Every time he is picked he does the job, and does it well. He likes to chip in with the odd screamer aswell as we all know.

Sergio Aguero - He does get praise, but not enough IMO. Has had to fill a certain Fernando Torres' boots, and doing it very well. One of the reasons Atletico are in the CL this season.

Fredi Kanoute - Helped Seville to those two Uefa Cups and to climb up La Liga and become a force.

Mark Noble - Very good CM. Always works like a donkey when I've seen him play. Does his job well, and plays well for the Eng U21s aswell. Plays with genuine passion. Should be at least in the England Senior squad.

Richard Dunne - I'd love a back four of Richard Dunnes. Gives his all every time. One of the reasons Ireland won on Wednesday. One of the few defenders I see put there body on the line over and over again. Another who plays with the passion required.

Gael Clichy - Alright, hes a gooner, but hes a good un, and he consistently plays well for that lot. Cant say he would get into our team with the full backs we have, but he does the job very well for Le Arse.

Iniesta - If he was playing with another team, he would get the credit he deserves, but because he plays/played in a team that has/had Ronaldinho, Messi, Henry, Eto'o, etc, he doesnt get it. Has a good partnership with Xavi who also should get more credit IMO.

Lampard is horribly under-rated by fans. Football men always rightly rate him as top class. I think fans personal opinion clouds they're judgements too much.

Scott Brown at Celtic i think is a top player, would love to see him at Spurs. Tough tackling central midfielder but is also creative and his passing is good as well.

Kidding on, aye? Even the Celtic fans dont rate him highly!

And Lampard i think is rated...about right!

Vidic anyone? Imo, one of the best, if no the best CB in the world.

someone who comes to mind who, in my opinion, never got the recognition he deserved - Stephen Dalmat. Yeah, he was a moody bitch, yeah he scowled a lot, but he had a really determined style and had a really confident technique.

Has anyone mentioned the left back who was once part of the second meanest defence in the prem, had a really acute ability to read his man, played to his strengths and rarely let his team down, but was apparently shit and floundering out of his depth in the prem - Mr Wipey Lee?

I'm with you when you say Vidic - outstanding defender, possibly one of the only defenders in the prem right now who holds a candle to Rio and, f*cks sake, he plays alongside him

I think the only reason he could be considered underrated is because of his international status - Serbia aren't exactly world beaters, ranked 40th by FIFA but never really finding the form they managed leading up to the last World Cup.

edit: i just checked out their last few results - i take that back, seems they've quietly done rather well in the 2010 qualifying rounds too  Maybe this is their time to go up to the next level and compete with the big guns?

Gomes. The amount of people outside Spurs that call him a joke keeper is amazing. Even on another forum I go on, someone said the first thing they'd do is replace Gomez (sic) I honestly feel he's in the top 8 keepers in the World.
