After discussion with a man utd fan I wondered.

Will there success ever end? If so when do you think it will?

There fans feel it will last forever, i said liverpool thought this back in the day and now look.

What do you guys think?

I'm too young to have the hindsight of another team being so dominant. I feel that now though, Man Utd. are similar to Real and Barca, in that they are now too big to fail, they have too many fans, they're too big of a product, an absolute machine.

They will always attract the big players, even if they were to finish mid table in a season, I feel that big players would still join them and they would just rebuild another team. So, although their success may not last forever, I can see it lasting for a very long time.

Yeah, I think about Liverpool but then I think that football today is so different. The money involved is ridiculous and Utd. market themselves so well. It's impossible to read the future, but I just get the feeling that Man Utd. are bigger worldwide than Liverpool ever were, and this will help their prolonged success.

The other side of the coin is that, as money's so important, what if a few multi-billionaires buy five or six clubs in the Premier League but not Man Utd., where does that leave them?

I think this will be a very very difficult season for UTD, I think they will struggle by their own standards and wouldn't put us far behind them.

I think United without a fully-fit Rooney on top-form are not as good. If Rooney struggles this season I think United will as well. With City getting stronger and Us, United's place in the top 4 no longer looks certain.

Generally, as a squad, including all staff, they have a superb record of employing the right people to do the right job and it shows in what they achieve. They have excellent players selected by arguably the greatest manager of several generations. They are trained by the best coaches, cared for by the best physios and their interests looked after by the best legal people but all that comes to nothing if you end up as collatoral in the downfall of your owner.

The debt the club has hanging over it is teetering on out-weighing the value of the club itself, to any future interested party, and there's not a chance in hell the laughing gnome is going to responsibly deal with any of it if his other business ventures are anything to go by.

The £1bn bid from that consortium, the one that Glazer turned down, was an exagerration of the clubs worth and clearly showed that there is money behind the fans, but the way he stonewalled it also showed he sees United as a very healthy vessel to launder money th... sorry, i mean use as an asset when it comes to obtaining more credit.

Whilst it'll be interesting to see what happens football wise post-Ferguson, If anything will take down the mighty Reds, it'll be a couple of guys in suits, wrapping up Glazers legacy of mis-investment and failure.

the self sustainability rules that are being introduced by fifa to ensure footy does not die of boredom (a very real possibility) + the pending collapse of western economies as we know them virtually guarantees the demise of super clubs like manure, real madrid, barcelona. big fapping pyres with huge fapping flames.

football needs this, success that is built, crafted, nurtured and then truelly admired and respected, not just bought with borrowed money.

RSS, outstanding take on the situation, particularly regarding the owners. God forbid what will ever happen to Liverpool, Arse anal, Citeh, Man Ure, Fulham etc if their owners go under due to too many crippling debts. Even seems that Barclona are going that way even though they're owned by all and sundry

When Sir Alex steps down it will have an affect on them.

I don't think they'll be on top forever. Things will change in football in general. Something will have to give. Eventually the top teams will have to fall away and then a new machine will take over. Hopefully Spurs.

They will always be successful because they are such a big club but they won't be dominant or have the kind of success they've enjoyed under Ferguson for much longer.

If they didn't have the large debt, then I could see them dominating for...well, ever

Unfortunately for them, the interest payments are so massive (£35-40million a season) that they won't be able to keep up with their competitors, in terms of squad strengthening. Added to that is the fact that a significant minority of their good players will retire soon, as well as old red-nose himself

Feel free to laugh at me, but I predict that they won't be in the top 4 within 3 years

Unless of course a mega rich (Arab?) individual buys them...

If this happens, then it could well be the end for Utd as a major force. i'm pretty sure that i read somewhere that the club are heavily reliant on the money received from reaching the latter stages of the champions league.

They will always be a massive club, they have built a legacy and a stadium that will last, but as Liverpool have showed, success on the pitch can vanish if you don't have the right management structure.

nothing would happen to arse as their major shareholders don't put any money in the club. if the majority shareholders went broke it wouldn't have any effect on the club other than a bunch of formerly rich shareholders desperate to sell their shares to anyone willing to buy them.

Manchester United probably have more "fans" in Asia then there are people in England. They will be a top 3 or 4 club in the world for a long long time.

I think United's biggest problem at the moment is the value of their squad.

Due to the ages of most their players I should imagine that it is actually considerably less than ours.
I'm not talking about the quality of these players but what they are worth in the transfer market.
So what? Well, if you think about trying to replace half a dozen top class players it's going to cost £100 miilion+ but with next to nothing in return it will take United a minimum of 4 years to rebuild.

The debts are taking up around half of their transfer spending power so they are on a level par with us in what they can pay out in transfer fees so I can see them slipping back into the top four pack over the next couple of seasons as their senior players start to decline.
