Had a conversation yesterday. General contents:

Nothing to happen for a while
. All our effort is going on finding that 'special' centre forward. Dzeko is looking far too expensive, so the search goes on.

Naughton is for sale. Walker is highly rated, and will play a part next season. Unlikely that we'll sign another as Corluka is here and Kaboul proved he can play there also. Supposedly not even in for Richards? Almost doubted that myself, no smoke without fire etc.

Whether we move for a wide player depends on Bentley. If he goes, we'll buy. If not, we're happy with what we've got. No deal in place for Turan or anyone else.

Only exception to this is Joe Cole. We won't be pushing the boat out to get him though, only going in because he's on a free, not because we need him. Unlikely to happen.

Can vouch for POTL's list of players for sale. Not trying to force anyone out though. Also, Modric staying put.

Hope to have some better(?) news soon.

Disappointing in that we all want (possibly unrealistically) a massive signing, but we are, on the whole, a young squad that is going to improve again next season, so a closed season without upheaval is no bad thing.

As long as we get a quality centre forward i'll be happy. I can honestly see us signing Huntelaar though tbh. Not sure if that will be a good thing or not. He certainly has the potential to be a top class forward.

I hope we tie up Modric on a new contract soon.

Modric staying and us actively looking for a star centre forward. Sounds exciting enough for me

Happy enough with all that. No point buying for the hell of it. If we cant improve on what we have, dont bother.

I'm glad. Hopefully this shuts people up who think we need 4 right backs, 6 centre backs and 7 wingers just because we'll be playing in the champions league next season.

come on people do you really think we won't be doing much business? this summer of all summers... it's like the planets have all aligned.

1) our manager is Harry rednapp
2) We are Tottenham hotspur
3) CL (almost)

I will be pleased if we don't do much business.

Why do we need to, we have a big squad anyway, that acheived 4th spot, with Modric and Lennon out for months.

A "special" striker, I would love Joe Cole and that would do me, with a few going out.

The problem is that a special striker means splashing the cash big. Since we seem unwilling to do the latter, the former will never happen. We'll end up with the same average forward line we currently have. Or worse, we'll sale Pavs and buy Cole and show our intent to move back down the table.

I'm not saying we are going to buy Dzeko, because I have never thought that he will come to us. But I actually think that you are being too pecimistic. Dan Levy, is not going to jeapordise what he has been trying to achieve for the last 9 years.

I'm not saying he will spend 30m+, but if he needs to and he thinks it is justified, he will spend.

Lets not get carried away yet, we are only in May still.

i think all in all that is good news.

I'm glad we're planning on getting that all important centre forward.

Again pleased that Harry sees Kaboul as a longterm option at right back. Slightly disapointed that Naughton isnt gonna be developing with us.

I'd rather have Kaboul over Richards. I personally dont want Joe Cole, I dont think it would be the right move financially or from a team perspective.

I couldnt see Modric leaving tbh, especially after us finishing 4th.

And I'm saying that we cannot improve our forward line with at least a 20 million pound player (such is the market for forwards). Since we won't spend that amount, we are not going to do anything buy replace Pavs with an equally average forward. Pessimism is the definition of realism when it doesn't involve free blow jobs and beer.

I just don't believe we ever had/have a chance of signing Dzeko. He will need to push through a transfer and he will only do that for a Milan or Real.

There are plenty of talented players out there whose reputations haven't quite exploded in the same way that his has in the last year or two. Its the job of our scouts to find them before we have to pay £25m upwards.

We only need to sign 2 players after Sandro this summer. Patience is the key.

Glad were focusing on looking for that special signing. As has been said before, our current squad managed to get 4th place with lots of injuries along the way, the last thing we need is a massive overhaul.

I'm hoping for a special striker; someone in the mould of drogba or olic (did anyone see him in the CL Final, he looked like a bodybuilder!), and also a solid backup keeper/young CB if cudicini/woodgate don't recover.

Also, hopefully see Harry give some of the youngsters the chance to impress off the bench or start a few cup games (not advocating the wenger approach here, but would like to see a youngster step up again ala. rose )

Huntelaar has the potential to be a starter for Hull City. He's not that good and never had the potential to be good

If we can keep Modric and replace the outgoing players with better replacements I am fine with that.

Would love to add Turan to what we have, would give us plenty of options but if it doesn't work out, we will still be fine.

I would also think 25 million would be just about right for Dzeko but if Madrid are in for him lets all wave goodbye. :hello:

If Dzeko doesn't work out who would be second on most people's lists? I get the feeling Huntalar is not second? Suarez from Ajax?
