I was watching a live stream of the match today and at half time they showed a stat about the distance some of the players had run in the 1st half. VDV was top with something like 5 miles! Nasri was second with about 4 1/2 miles. Maybe this is why Redknapp takes him off around 70 mins?

Thought his best work was done too deep at times....Defoe needed better support.

Van De Vaart is a top player were lucky to have a player like him.

Hes working harder atm but its meaning hes too deep and as a result hes not in the box where hes dangerous.

he was deep because he needed to be deep. 2 up, and the city midfield wouldve overrun us

i think we should sometimes play VDV or modders. For me, the both can play well and sometimes play poorly, but they are guaranteed a place in the first team. They need competetion. So does Adebayor.

i like those stats they show on YES. VDV always seems to be in the top 3 at HT. Which does tend to suprise me a bit, he does work hard though.

I think so, ever since somebody mentioned this stat to me a some weeks ago I haven't seen VDV not leading the distance.

Kaboul was in the top 6 as well which is quite worrying seeing as he is a CB.

He regularly turns in the most ground covered. Last game I saw the stats was Stoke away and he was there too. He also regularly sees more ball than everyone unless Modric pips him by by a pass or two.

His movement is one of the key elements to the way that we now play better football.

You cannot do this if players don't constantly move to receive the ball and offer options for team mates. No-one does this better in our team than VDV.

Even on tougher days like today he's making 64 passes and covering more ground than anyone else. His ho hum is better than most players we've seen in spurs shirts very best.

VdV covers a deceptively large amount of ground. Normally I wish he would stay higher up the pitch (thereby not covering as much ground) but in game's like today I was fine with him being pretty deep and looking to start moves rather than provide the final ball or shot

Rafa works his arse off and I think some people don't realise this. He closes down, drops deep to start off moves, gets on the end of moves and his tussle against Odemwingie the other day was brilliant. He worked hard today without really producing. Not his best game but I think we're always more dangerous with him on the pitch.

for me hw has started to really put a shift in. he was deep today but he just wants to be involved. its clear he has a bit of a remit to go where he wants. If only it was 12 man game and we would piss it with that 11 plus ade. LOL

He has always put a shift in since he's been here

People are just starting to notice. Only player who closes down and puts a foot in instead standing a couple yards away just watching.

I don't know if he's the only player who does but the likes of Modric and Bale could take a leaf out of his book. The lack of pressure on the ball from that pair saw us carved apart for the first goal.

I was really disappointed to see Rafa withdrawn as I consider him to be the brains of the operation.

He is a midfielder not a forward, maybe that's why he comes deep so much to get the ball.

Just a thought
