Tim Sherwood has taken aim at Tottenham’s Jan Verthonghen once more insisting: ‘He just can’t defend’.

The former Spurs boss laid into the Belgian after he produced yet another unconvincing display in the club’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Sherwood said: “Vertonghen is so poor. Can’t move his feet. He looks elegant with the ball but he just can’t defend, this guy.”

At least Jan is employed in professional football, but Tim is not. Which as far as I am concerned, says a lot. Lloris did make a mistake in the game too, and his poor kicks is sometimes letting us all down, but he is still a top top goalie in my wiev. Having said that, Jan should have done better in the game against cheatski the russian footballmafia, no doubt about it. I could have said a few things about Tim too, but it is better left undone. "Quiet is the new loud" as it says.

Cool lets just continue debating the 'quotes' with no evidence they ever existed. Thought SC was smarter than this!

He could coach them to score goals though...or as you might put it nick a couple biscuits from the packet rather than just fumbling trying to open it

What i find funny when sherwood makes a comments about the club or players he's a dick but when someone else says it their so right.

That's because he is.

Has anyone actually seen video evidence of this supposed Sherwood attack? Usually these things appear on YouTube/Vine before the blogs and journos pick up on them. I think someone somewhere is stirring the pot.

Newspaper quotes don't have to come with video evidence to have credibility.

They get in a lot of trouble for making up fraudulent quotes which are defamatory - to in this case Sherwood.

So to avoid legal action - they usually hide behind "Sherwood is reported to have said".

Thereby reporting on the reporting - and not technically mis-quoting.

Darren Lewis hasn't sought that protection - it's "Sherwood said" which means he's confident in the quote.

Having watched Sherwood as a pundit for Spurs on ITV4 - what he's reported to have said wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

But no-one else has said shit like 'Vertonghen is so poor', because he clearly isn't. Only Sherwood comes out with shit like this which is why people think he's a dick - because he keeps acting like a dick.

Sherwood's being an arse and being correct in a good deal of what he says are not mutually exclusive.

imo both are quite unprofessional

sherwood shouldnt be saying this sort of stuff

at the same time Jan appeared to be going through the motions a number of times towards the end of last season

"@Jan_Vertonghen: A clean sheet is positive but we wanted to win. I'm happy to have made 100 apps for the club & hopefully I'll go to 200."

Good to hear

Found this on twitter

Vertonghen “The fans are not wrong to boo us," "They want to win and I want to win. I understand their frustration."

Take notes, Ade.

Yet we still have no source or proof these ever existed. Every time a pundit goes on a mad one, it appears on Vine/YouTube. there is still absolutely no evidence he ever said this. Anyway, Jan is class, just not at the moment.

Agree, as in the recent article in The Independent where he extols the virtues and pitfalls of development integration into first teams very well, then goes on to say Spurs failed by not building a team around Jake Livermore.

This is his problem, he's a (trigger happy) bullshit scatter gun. The odd pellet hits the target, but most just splatter all over innocent bystanders (and the truth) unlucky enough to be in his orbit.

Seems most people's biggest gripe is he doesn't charge around with a big dopey fucking grin on his face.

Good footballer, good CB, Aren't too many I'd swap him for in the EPL right now.
