Will leave us with one more point from our three fixtures this season than from the corresponding ones last season.

Something to think about.

Someone else mentioned it in another thread.

I don't think it's the points that are the real issue though. It's the performances.

Having said that, I'm still confident about this season and can't wait for the Wolves game. I like to think of the City game as the culmination of our bad patch. Let's draw a line under it and start again.

Wolves at Molineaux is a very difficult game. All the more so 'cos we've got an ex Spur, Jamie O'Hara, who will no doubt come back to haunt us. A point wouldn't be the end of the World.

If we bloody fight to win and never give up in all our games, we will be fine. If we can't even be arse even to show up for the top 2 teams in the league, i fear for the rest of our season

Proof that statistics can prove whatever you want them to prove.
It ignores the fact that we have lost both confidence and momentum by
losing our first two games in such a desultory fashion.

But if Harry pins BBLG´s post on the changing room wall
it might just do the trick.

good thread.

Against Man Utd away we played well for the first 50 mins or so and it was a similar story against City so im not to downbeat. Add to the fact that in those games we have missed - King, Gallas, Modric (in 1), Sandro, Pienaar, Adebayor, Huddlestone (wasnt fully fit against United), Palacios means we were fielding a very weak team. Hopefully the Modric saga is now done and with Parker coming in our midfield will be much stronger and our front line will be improved beyond belief with Adebayor coming in.

Would love to know what the situation is with King atm as we could do with him or Gallas at the back alongside 1 of Kaboul/Dawson

The thing that we seemed to have lost so far is the spirit in our ranks.

The last two seasons we have should excellent spirit and resolve and often turned defeats in to draws and draws into wins (I believe we set the record for points gained from losing positions last season)

In our first two games this season we have actually been playing ok until we conceded the first goal in each game at which point we have pretty much collapsed and each time could have lost by cricket scores once the first goal went in had it not been for Friedel in goal.

It could be that the whole MOdric affair has caused this, or at least contributed to it (especially as he refused to play the first game and asked not to play the second) hopefully now the window has slammed shut and his immediate future is no longer in the air this will settle down and we will see a reuniting of our squads spirit.

Wolves is a very big game for us, if Adebayor and Parker can come in and have big debuts and hit the ground running and Modric can return to his best form then I think the bad start will instantly be behind us and we will kick on... lose or draw (and stay rock bottom) and we may end up losing further moral and really losing ground on those around us.

Oh I agree completely with you JG (as ever), I was just pointing out that our season has been no more lost in the opening two games than won. If after ten games we are underperforming then I'll worry, but as it stands I have as much reason to be positive as to be negative.

Based on our performances this year victory v wolves is far from being a sure thing

Both Harry and Ledley have said that it has caused problems, and injuries will hardly have helped. Four years ago we had the squad unsettled by the board's spending the close season negotiating to replace Jol and Berbatov sulking because we hadn't let him go to United, and it showed in brittle performances where we threw games away after being completely on top (away to Fulham springs to mind).

Wolves away is going to be a really tough game and I for one am not expecting a win.

Its a big game, no doubt about it. If we falter again we then face the prospect of facing a resurgent Liverpool side, a direct competitor this season, low on confidence knowing that if we fail to win that, or even worse lose, there will be an absolute mountain to climb so early on - and we know how tough and unforgiving this League is.

Wolves away is a massive game and its one of those games that you have to win the battle in order for your quality to prevail.

We need to be set up in a fashion to reflect this. I mean had we kept Palacios I would of picked him alongside Parker for this with Modric inside left. That would of been a strong looking midfield despite who was playing on the right.

As it is I would pick Livermore, we need to be solid and set up to compete in the middle of the park, Modric coming in from the left will help with ball retention and of course he can carry it forward to good effect.

Parker and Adebayor need to hit the ground running here, particularly Parker IMO. He's completely match fit and should be very eager to impress on his debut - can only be a good thing.

No it won't, last season we beat Wolves, drew with City and lost at OT. We'll still be one point worse off.
