Houllier claimed that the FA Cup was important to him. Then he makes eight changes and weakens the team significantly before a fifth round away trip to Man City.

The Villa fans will not forget this lie.

I don't get what Houillier is doing with this line-up today. His players don't need resting as there's not that much for them to play for in the Premiership. I thought Villa would go all out for the FA Cup this season.

He waits till they're three down before bringing on Young and Downing? WTF?

City could have put about 20 past them tonight if they wanted. Even in the first half, the Villa players were passing it around in their own half for like 5 straight minutes, getting nowhere, and the City lads were at walking pace.

Bannan, Delph, Delfouneso, Herd - thats great to see young, English talent. But not when there's a chance to play a quarter-final at home against a team in the league below up for grabs. I'd be unbelievably irritated if it was us.

This annoys me more than say, Blackpool making all their changes in the league as well as Wolves, because if teams also do what Villa have done in the FA Cup, it won't be long till it feels like we have 2 Carling Cup competitions.

Fair enough against lower league opposition like Arsenal tonight but with two big Premiership teams especially, it's unfortunate.

I'm irritated and it's not even us. If I was a Villa fan I'd be really annoyed. Villa at full strength were perfectly capable of getting at least a draw. With that Villa would've had a really good chance of getting to Wembley, since they would've played Reading at home in the quarter final. Opportunity missed for Villa. Houlier messed up big time.

Wondered this too, makes no sense whatsoever...if you're going to rest them, whatever, but if you were resting them why bring them on after the game is lost?

Thankfully the mrs was working or I'd have had to watch that instead of the old firm game, I know which one was better! :)

Bet Ollie was straight on the phone to some faceless bod at the FA asking when the investigation would start into Villa fielding a weakened team. At least Blackpool could point to several sick, or tired to the point of not fit to play, squad members and their manager was up front enough to just admit he was fielding second string because of fixture pileups and fatigue, yet Villa will get away with this i expect without any complaints from the FA. Their decision to field a weakend side gave the advantage to Citeh, the latest team to be caught receiving sexual favors from Rupert Murdoch in a broom cupboard.

I've said it far too often in the last few months - Football in this country is rapidly becoming a joke, but what should we expect with a troop of clowns running the FA?

Houllier was asked in the interview after the game about his changes to the side and he said that he knew that he was gonna get asked about that, but he had Agbonlahor and some other player on the pitch (who's name I can't remember) so it was a strong enough side to compete with citeh.

There was a debate between the pundits at the end and I believe that all of them said he made the wrong decision with the side he fielded. In no way was it strong enough and that there was no good reason for him to do this!

I think Houllier said he said he done it with one eye kept on staying in the prem this
season but I dont think there would be anyone who would say the Villa are going to be one of the teams which are going down this year?

It's so tight in the bottom half that he'd be foolish to be complacent. Villa have been a couple of wins away from the top half for a few months but have struggled to get them. I think they were just winning one game a month there for a while due to heavy injuries which meant that a lot of players that played last night were actually getting a lot of game time anyway! Injured players were rushed back after they flirted with the bottom three so were probably in need of a rest.

It's not like Villa were going to be asked to play another 20 games.
They had a chance of getting Europe through the FA cup and they don't now. At least it's more matches for City.
