We have to accept that at some stage Harry will not be available through injury or may even (God forbid) hit a barren patch...then we need a proven striker to step in and carry the flag. Jansen isn't it for me. This can't be a problem just Spurs have...what do the other top sides do in such a situation ??....need somebody hungry to prove his worth when given the chance and put Mr Kane under a little bit of pressure...nothing wrong with having some healthy competition for the striker's role.

Jesus Christ - "buy someone to put Kane under pressure?" I can name about 3 strikers in world football who would start ahead of Kane. Lukakau would be someone who could put Kane "under pressure" - Mate, he costs 75 million quid.

If we want the back-up you're talking about, in today's market we're spending £50 million bare minimum.

What do the other Premiership sides do my friend ?...what contingency plans do we have for Harry being out of the side for a lengthy time ?...it's a problem waiting to happen and if Harry does lose his shooting boots for a while we are currently knackered. Just trying to cover all of the bases here....we do it for every other position.

Some of you Janssen haters are beyond belief, he could out score Harry, and you would still be whinging......
Its not hating mate it's realistically assessing the guy's performances so far ...when he puts the shirt on I cheer just as loudly for him as anyone else. His goal tally tells you everything....I hope things change for him but how long do you give him to come up with the goods ?

Out of interest, can you name the signing you want?

When players like Eriksen and Kane are saying they think we have a great squad and don't need to panic about bringing new players in it's an indication they rate squad players like Janssen. I think he looks very decent and needs to play more often for the goals to come. We shall see.

Personally I would like to see Josh King here as I think under Poch he could be world class...just my opinion of course but you did ask.
22 goals in the last 3 years. And at 25 years of age, he's got a bit of catching up tp do to become world class.

In the PL Son played 34 games, over 2000 minutes and accrued the 10th most minutes out of all squad members.

Doesn't sound like a backup to me.

He's not a backup but he's certainly a rotation player. Son is the perfect player to replace Kane's goals if he gets injured, short of buying a £50m player that will destroy our wage structure. We just need to play a slightly different game due to his different skill set.

Janssen will never be a 30 goal a season pl striker but he's a very good target man and good at holding up the ball so we need the midfielders to run off him and take the goalscoring burden off Kane.

Come on, people allowed to have their opinions on players both positive and negative depending on how they view them

Doesn't make them "haters"

It's a football forum for fans to express and discuss their views, we don't all have to agree on everything all the time and everyone's opinion doesn't have to be positive about every player all the time

I, and I'm sure everyone who currently thinks Janssen looks like a poor investment would love him to come good and prove us wrong

But that doesn't mean we're wrong for expressing our personal opinions/assessment of him thus far based on what we've seen

Are posters only allowed to post positive comments about the team and players/managers or they're automatically haters?

As I said before under Poch's guidance I believe he could improve drastically, especially with the quality and support of the squad we have....but that's just my humble view.

I suspect Poch will be watching Janssen very closely in pre-season, both in training and friendlies.

Poch will need to see signs of progression. He needs to know that not only has Janssen learned from last season's work in training, but that he's showing the ability to turn that into end product.

All of our front four scored goals last season, and linked well both offensively and in terms of pressing. VJ needs to demonstrate he can deliver on all fronts.

Poch absolutely isn't going to knee jerk a decision based on 45 minutes of a friendly. But if he doesn't see more from VJ over the next couple of games, then I suspect getting a backup striker in will become more of a transfer priority during August.

I still hope Janssen can show the kind of second season development that we've seen with say Son & Lamela.

But last night, GKN showed flashes of real improvement on last season, and VJ didn't. It's time for Janssen to step up.

Very much like soldado very likeable guy who gives his all, sadly don't think he's suited to our system or the premier league.

I'm pretty sure if a suitable bid. And in and we got our money back then he would be sold.

We need a forward with pace someone who could come on when we need a goal and stretch defences

Janssen has another season to prove himself in training and on the pitch in my opinion. This might not stop us looking for and signing another striker, but the challenge this year is to prove his worth.

I'm fucking livid. At one point, with his back to goal, he got the ball in their penalty area and he failed to turn, nutmug his marker, do 15 keepy uppies finished off by his catching the ball on the back of his neck before flipping it up and executing a perfect scissor kick volley into the back of the net.

Based on his failure to accomplish that simple task during that 45 minute first game of pre-season appearance we clearly need an upgrade :D
I saw Jimmy Greaves do that once.

I agree with you mate. But regardless of his limitations, I certainly wouldn't advocate his sale, not least because I don't know anyone who's confident that Levy would spend decent money to replace him.

Exactly that is the flip side of the club and whilst none of us know what is really going on at the club, seeing as it's nearly end of July and yet it appears that we are close on literally no one could we trust losing Janssen and get someone else in during the time that is left.
